Thinking of switching to a Mac.

Ok, recently I've been thinking of getting a Mac. Here is the mac I want: http://www.apple.com/au/imac/

I have one of the dell inspirions atm and it's terrible -.-

Reasons why I want to go to macs:

    Less virus's,
    Less problems,
    easier to use,

Please give me some advice is it wise to switch?

    ALSO:
    Are Macs good gaming computers?

Macs are good but in my option extremely overpriced. You could get a PC that compares to it's specs for half price.

Macs, good gaming computers? jesus, have you ever read anything about mac's? If you want gaming, stick to PC, if you want slow and random shut of's on your computer, Buy a mac.

Honestly man, spend money on a new good computer, you can get a $900 pc that is better than a $2500 apple.

I know I will get flamed for this, but honsetly google search "mac vs pc" and see how much better pc actually is.

I'd stick, and just buy a new Dell. Way better, better performance.

I'd steer clear of Dell and Apple.

No, Macs are not good with gaming. Windows is the #1 OS for gaming right now.

Macs ARE overpriced as well... they're really only more expensive than a equivalent PC because of the brand name "apple"

What do you have in mind?

If you are looking for a gaming computer, i would buy a dell, add a SHIT load of ram and a good gfx card, and install Linux (Windows computers won't let you use more than 4gb of ram :S). You can get better ram chips at http://www.newegg.com/

Macs. Gaming computers. That made me lol.

For laptops, I've always found that ASUS make good quality ones. I got one for 1.2K

    2GB Ram
    Duel Core 1.66 + 1.67 Processor
    80GB HDD.

Basics. The only problem with mine is the graphics card. Complete shit. Getting it changed when I can afford to.

    For a PC, I would suggest GO-CUSTOM! X)

Get a laptop, either HP (Hewlett Packard) or ASUS.

There are plenty of viruses for macs, there are plenty of problems for macs, there is plenty of ignorance surrounding macs that make people liek you think they're better.

it depends on what you want to do with it.

Want to game? Go for a PC.
Want to use resource intensive programs like photoshop? Go for a Mac.

Want to use it as a general computer for browsing, etc.? Go for a PC custom built for gaming as well.

    Dell's are horrible,
I've had such bad experiences with them. Currently now my dell laptop is back at dell getting fixed. So far I've replaced the gfx card, lcd screen, added more ram, had several hardware/software problems and the list continues.

    @ TDD ASUS any good?

I had an HP, that shit blows man but maybe it did 3 years ago. Mac's I heard are easier to hack but they do look great. I'd just get an IBM if not a Mac. I have a Mac Pro and it's awesome. Just know what you're DL'ing and you should be fine .

Your best bet would be to make your own.

get your parts from newegg.com or something, and build it from scratch you get total control and the best parts.

totally agree on the building your own idea.. it's really fun too :D

All brands that sell pre built gaming computers are overpriced as well.

Sorry, but you're completely wrong. Windows can support anything over 4GB of RAM, you just have to buy the 64x OS version.

Macs are alright, but when it comes to gaming/applications like gaming it fails.

    Plus: They're great for school.

Macs aren't bad for some games...I mean more and more are things being made for both PC and Mac. I personally like Mac because of the user friendly interface, the programs that come with it, and the programs you can get. Ever wonder why almost all animators, music producers (etc) use Macs? Because that's what they're good for. We actually use Macs in my media arts class, which is photography, photo editing, music development, etc.

Macs can play a couple good games though, like all the Blizzard games such as World of Warcraft, Diablo II, Starcraft...Though the variety is extremely limited. Also, if you're big into Runescape cheating and using user-made programs, it's also a safe bet to say that PC would be best for that.

Anyway, my 2 cents, hope it helped.

Do not switch. I would stay clear of all prebuilt computers, other than alien ware. But I wouldn't even buy alien wear because it is so expensive. You can make a computer better than alien wear for less than they charge. Spend around 700$ and build your own, and you will have a very nice computer. And don't buy prebuilt computers also because they come loaded with gay vista. Vista sucks unless you have 3gb+ in memory.

Macs aren't good gaming computers. Apple also rip you off, you're not getting your money's worth with them. I think you should stick with a regular PC. For getting a new one, buying a PC new off eBay from a well-respected seller with warranty is my recommendation.

You don't really need to worry about viruses on Windows if you have good antivirus and antispyware applications installed.

Getting Alienware wrong twice like that takes away from your credibility :p

It runs fine with 2GB, and you'd have way more than 2GB in a decent desktop PC.
