~!~!~WARNING~!~!~
I have recently learned of a glitch. When you are duelling with no movement you cannot use ice spells! It will bring up a message saying you don't need to entangle them since movement is off.

~!~!~PLEASE RATE THIS THREAD~!~!~

Hello, I am 00hybrid00 and I decided to make this thread to help people who are thinking about making a staker. I will post several types of stakers and multiple ways to make them.

~!~!~INTRO~!~!~

Stake dueling is a great way to make money. Many many people do it. And the more who do it, the more to win from! So yeah anyways, with the large number of stake duelers, people need to find ways to get to the top. So, people thought of making different types of stakers. It isn't just 1 defence pures owning the arena anymore. Now there are more options for stakers, thus more classes, thus more ways to win big.

Post 1 - Introduction, this one.

~!~!~CLASSES OF STAKERS~!~!~

Post 2

Ok, there are many different classes of stakers. We have the 1 defence pures, we have the semi pures, the defence pures, the 40 defence pures, prayer beasts, and finally the tanks. Some say one class rules them all, but in truth, no one class rules all the stakers.

Ok, so here we have the 1 defence pures. 1 defence pures usually stick with 2 skills, mage-range, mage-melee, mel
ee-range. Sticking with 2 skills gives you a wider range of options for stake dueling, while keeping your combat fairly low. These pures have 1 defence and 1 prayer.

Ok, here are the semi pures. These have a reputations for owning everything and everybody in their path. If there is one certain class that owns all, this is the class. They generally have high attack and strength (in the 90s), 52 prayer, and 1 defence. They can be in the 90s in combat with VERY high strength and attack, and with their 52 prayer they rip their oponent's prayer to shreds. After ripping up the opponent's prayer, they use protect melee. A good strategy in my opinion. Semi pures are generally pkers, but can stake duel.

Now here we have the defence pures. They have a reputation of hitting constants have hardly ever getting hit. In food fights they generally use maybe half their inventory of food in a fight with an avarage player. These files usually have 70 defence, between 30 and 50 strength, and 70+ attack.

Contintinued

Continuation.

Post 3

They generally use full Verac (suggested), or full Torags and an abbyssel whip and an obsedian shield.

Now here we have prayer beasts. These are not very common, but if made correctly, they can own pretty good. They normally substitute defence with prayer. They have really high prayer and little or no defence. There really isn't much to say about prayer beasts.

Infinity mages are discussed later.

Ok, now on to 40 defence pures. These are somewhat common, but mostly for people who don't plan on raising the main stat past 90. They are not bad at staking, the melee stakers use full rune or no armor, the mages and rangers use blk dhide or splitbark or skeletal. Some people call their 40 def pures "semi tanks". This usually occurs with the mages. 40 defence pures are usually more successfull during the lower levels, and it is mostly the mages that are more successfull. The mage semi tanks often outgrow the 40 defence and go on to 70 defence to be official tanks. I'll go into detail later.

Ok, on to tanks. These are pretty much magic only. Melee "tanks" are usually the 70 def pures who use verac. Mage tanks are usually in the upper 80s or lower 90s in combat and generally wear full Ahrims with an ancient staff using ice barrage. Many of these tanks are graduated semi tanks. They are very effective in taking down small groups of pkers. Most of the time it only takes 1 or 2 to take down an army of melee'res

~!~!~1 DEF PURES~!~!~

Post 4

1 Defence pures, the most common types of pures in the game. Why are they so common? Because they are very good at no armor staking. When you have a 1 def pure, make sure to keep 1 defence (don't kill it if you get 2 or 3 or even 6 by accident) and 1 prayer.

A good starter for melee: Do horror from the deep, and other quests that give attack xp before getting 60 attack. Remember, quests are easy xp and after you have 60 attack you don't need any higher (yet). I suggest you train on rock crabs or experiments or thugs in edgeville dungeon. The thugs are good xp at a lower level. Then move on to rock crabs, experiemnts, or fire elementals.

Attack: 60

Strength: 72

Hits: 62

Combat: 58

From here, get 59 magic, (no higher) and do family crest (steel gaunts help), get 70 range (black dhide legs help tons for training and pking), and do troll stronghold to get climbing boots (def and strength bonus, aids training a lot). From here, go all out strength. When you hit 80-85 strength, you are in the pro zone. Good job.

Continuation

Post 5

For a magic-range 1 def pure, heres a starter. Use fire strikes to get 55 mage, and high alch to 60. Get 53 thieving and 35 agility and get ghost robes and zammy book. Do mage arena and get Guthix claws and cast inside the arena till you can use it outside.

Magic: 60

Hitpoints: About 45?

Combat: around 40.

From there, keep high alching to 70 or so magic. Start raising ranged to raise hitpoints and as a secondary fighting skill. Get about 75 mage and ranged and do desert treasure. From there, (cnsr) pk, stake duel, whatever. Just keep high alching and go for 94 mage. But remember, keep that ranged close to that magic!

~!~!~DEF PURES~!~!~

Post 6

These are the guys with 70 def, 70 attk, and very low strenght who use whips and torags, or full verac. Not the best, but not too bad. The starter will hit constants up to 9.

For starters:

Attack: 70

Strength: 40

Defence: 70

Hits: 66

Combat: 68

From there, you may want to raise your strength to 50 to increase your max hit by a bit. After 52 strength, use accurate for every duel. May want to raise your attack really high after hitting 52 strength so you hit VERY constantly.

~!~!~SEMI PURES~!~!~

Semi pures are often graduates from the 1 def pures class. They have decided that the dragon weapons and 60 attack is done. They have made a bit of money stake dueling and pking and are ready to move on. Semi pures will have very high attack and strength (in the 90s) and normally 52 prayer. Semi pures are VERY powerfull and I know one of them PKs while wearing a white p-hat. Now rethink your idea that they blow. They are not to be triffled with. When you make your semi pure, get 59 mage and 70 ranged for blk dhide and steel gaunts. Also do troll stronghold for desert boots. Trust me, these small bits will help a lot in training. Continue training on experiments, or go exploring other monsters that are good xp.

Note: Some semi pures have low defence like 20.

For starters:

Attack: 80

Strength: 80

Defence: 1

Hits: 75

Prayer: 52

Combat: 77

From here, continue raising your attack and strength. Use an abbysel whip when pking and stake dueling, and a dragon skimmy for strength training. Good luck!

A decent semi pure I saw recently was Aquafighter (yes, I got her permission to write her name here). She was level 82 when I met her and had 78 strength, 30 defence (I think shoulda been 20 max), 80 attack. She put up one hell of a fight. I was lvl 101 when I fought her. I won 1.3m off of her but she kind of expected it. I was after all, 19 levels higher.

~!~!~INFINITY MAGES~!~!~

Post 7

Semi tanks are mainly magic, and I will post accordingly. A pure mage will often increase to 25 defence for the new infinity armor. It works really well in staking. So some 1 def mage pures graduate to infinity pures. Infinity pures sometimes graduate to semi tanks, who finally graduate to tanks if they are determined.

Basic starter: Do horror from deep and desert treasure.

Attack: 50 (ancient staff)

Magic: 70

Defence: 25

Range: 70 (for hitpoints)

Prayer: 13 (came from priest in peril)

Hitpoints: 60? (Unpredictable with mage)

Combat: 57 or so.

Semi tank: Do desert treasure, horror from deep.

Attack: 50 (staff)

Mage: 82 (blitz)

Ranged: 80 ranged (cnsr- hit points)

Hits: 72 or so

Defence: 40 (splitbark or skeletal)

Combat: 69

~!~!~SEMI TANKS~!~!~

Post 8

To make a semi tank, you can graduate from infinity mage, or simply make one from scratch. You should probably cast fire strike to 55 magic, then high alch to 82. After this, raise your ranged to 80 to increase your hitpoints and again, to give you a wider selection of combat styles during a fight.

Semi tank: Do desert treasure, horror from deep.

Attack: 50 (staff)

Mage: 82 (blitz)

Ranged: 80 ranged (cnsr- hit points)

Hits: 72 or so

Defence: 40 (splitbark or skeletal)

Combat: 69

~!~!~TANKS~!~!~

Post 9

Ok, finally on to the tanks. Since almost all tanks are mages I will catagorize them as such.

To make a tank, you can upgrade from semi tank, or make one from scratch. I suggest making a semi tank and upgrading. This will make things much easier for you and you won't have some really distant goal.

There isn't really a starter for a tank, tanks are the products of hard work and dedication. For a tank mage, you have done desert treasure and horror from the deep. Tank mages are usually for pking, but can own in the duel arena as well.

Tank mage:

Attack: 50 (staff)

Mage: 94 (Barrage)

Range: 90 (cnsr - hitpoints)

Hitpoints: 86 or so

Defence: 70 (Ahrim)

Combat without 52 prayer: 86

Combat with 52 prayer: 91

~!~!~QUICK PKER~!~!~

Post 11

If you are strapped for time and cash, use this plan. It's a decent, quick, easy, and fairly inexpensive pker or staker. Use fire strikes on lessers on f2p to get 60 mage then make it p2p.

Prayer free: This would certainly own at a low level in some place like edgeville dungeon or dueling low lvls.

Mage: 60 (use zammy or guthix)

Defence: 40 (split or skele)

Hits: 46 or so

Combat: (cnsr) 50

With prayer: This would also be good if you like using prayer.

Mage: 60 (zammy or guthix)

Defence: 40 (split or skele)

Hits: 46 or so

Prayer: 43 or 52

Combat: 55 or 57 with 52 pray.

Melee: This is a plan for a quick melee pker. You should not use this for dueling or solo pking. Do this if you have about 3 or 4 other friends who want to pk with you.

Attack: 50

Strength: 60

Defence: 10

Hitpoints: 50

Combat: 50

Use full black armor and a granite maul. All 4 of you fight in low lvl wildy, multi zone. When you find somebody, you all attack once and spec twice. This should kill any level 40-60 instantly. Congratulations, you have pked full rune.

~!~!~THE ULTIMATE STAKER~!~!~

Post 12

This would be a file I would rate 10/10 (which I never have rated anybody). This would be THE ULTIMATE stake dueling file. Absolutely perfect!

Combat: 106

Attack: 99

Strength: 99

Defence: 70

Hitpoints: 99

Prayer: 1

Stake duel with full Verac, fury, and rune boots. This would own up to lvl 110s or so.

To start this file, get these stats...

Attack: 70
Str: 68
Def: 70
Hits: 65 (if you do some quests for xp)
Prayer: 1
Combat: 78

~!~!~THE RANGER DECIMATER~!~!~

Post 13

This is a file that will decimate rangers, providing you duel them and them ONLY and with armor on. You use rune plate, granite shield and granite legs. This defence vs ranged bonus will incapacitate them almost completely and you will be able to take out rangers with ranged up to 81 or so. You MUST have armor on with this character so it may be best to have it as a secondary file so when you see a ranger in the arena you pop out with this file and challange him.

Attack: 60

Strength: 64

Defence: 50

Hits: 60

Pray: 1

Combat: 68

~!~!~NOTE~!~!~
This is NOT an effective staking file and I suggest you go with any of the others. HOWEVER, if you enjoy spending time and money making stakers, this is another to add to your collection. THIS FILE MAY ALSO BE USED AS A STAKE BOXER.

~!~!~PRAYER BEAST~!~!~

Post 14

Prayer beasts are not very common because most people like to stake with prayer off. However, if you do make a prayer beast and can find people who will stake you with prayer on, you will be really good. The point of a prayer beast is to have an unusually high prayer level to gain advantages in combat. The following is a good prayer beast to start with, and one to go for in a fairly longterm goal.

For starters:

Attack: 60
Strength: 56
Defence: 1
Magic: 59 (family crest)
Ranged: 70 (armor)
Hitpoints: 65 (approximately)
Prayer: 60
Combat: 61

From here, go for these stats...

Attack: 70
Strength: 68
Defence: 20 (initiate)
Magic: 59
Ranged: 70 (optional)
Hitpoints: 70 (approximately)
Prayer: 75
Combat: 76

Make sure you do Recruitment Drive. It will help a LOT in terms of armor. Use an abbyssel whip for stake duelling, put nothing on except 1 handed weapons, no potions, no movement, prayer ON, food off. When you want to train, you can train at the Ape Atoll at the prayer alter. Prayer beasts have a distinct training advantage over regular pures.

~!~!~GUIDES ON WHERE TO TRAIN~!~!~

EMPS GUIDE "Where To Train From Level 3-126"

Seeing these many threads about where to train I decided to post my guide here (already submitted to RuneHQ), hopefully it's helpful to some of you.

WARNING: This guide will help you get Good/Very good experience, not LOOT, if what you seek is loot, then stop reading INMEDIATELY, because submissions of training spots will not be considered just because they have good loot but horrible exp (Green Dragons, Lesser Demons, Hellhounds, etc...)

Where to Train combat from lvl-3 to 126
By Emp

Items needed (F2P): Rune armor (Kiteshield, platelegs, platebody, and full helm), rune scimitar, Strength Potions, and food (lobsters at higher levels).

Items needed (P2P): Rune armor (Kiteshield, platelegs, platebody, and full helm), Mystic Staff (Element doesn’t matter), Rune Scimitar, *Abyssal Whip (If you have access to one) , Dragon Battleaxe, Dragon Dagger, Dragon Longsword, Dragon Scimitar, **Super Sets, Stat Restore Potions, and food (lobsters or sharks at higher levels).

UPDATE: If you have access to an abyssal whip (Level-70attack needed) then use it for training instead of the staff/dagger.
UPDATE: Check equipment section for a description on why to use rune scimitar on P2P
UPDATE:For the ones that have finished Monkey Madness (Like myself), you should seriously consider using the Dragon Scimitars (Explained on Equipment section).
UPDATE:New Monster AI explanation in Part D.
UPDATE (F2P):This should've been added ages ago, but I've been busy, the use of strength potion (regular) on F2P will you an exp accrual boost (lesser than the super sets or the dragon battleaxe+stat restore combo)
UPDATE:I noticed that I forgot to add the Stat restore potions into the list of items for P2Pers (Use these along with the dragon battleaxe special)

Stats Required (P2P only): None, but you must get 40 magic as soon as possible (to wield the mystic staff)

So you just arrived from tutorial island and saw a level-100 ignore you? You want to get back at him by getting stronger than him? Well, in this guide I’ll show you the most efficient way from level-3 combat to the maximum player level of 126.

You should try and gather the items I mentioned above as soon as possible, try using other skill-guides that can teach you ways of making money easily.

I will divide this guide into part A (F2P) and part B (P2P), at the beginning they will look alike, but as levels raise the recommended training grounds will differ aswell.

Let’s get started, shall we?

A.) F2P Training Areas:

1.) Crafting Guild Cows: from level-3 to level-30. if you don’t know where this is, just go west from lumbridge castle (your starting point) until you reach a building that needs a 40-crafting requirements to enter, it has a gate with cows besides it, great place to train for low level players. There is also a fishing spot just south of rimmington.

2.) Varrock Sewers Skeletons: From level-30 to level-40. This is located inside Varrock city and shouldn’t be hard to find. The training spot it’s just past the torture device with about 3-5 skeletons, so just get to 40 so we can move on, also fish a bit before coming to train here.

3.) Wilderness Graveyard of Shadows: From level-40 to level-63. This is just first wilderness training spot and it’s located northeast of Edgeville, use the map if you get lost. It’s recommended to have AT LEAST 25 Magic for teleport to varrock (Incase of PKers).

4.) Varrock Sewers (Red Spiders): From level-63-73. yep, back to those sewers, I suppose most of you should’ve all the items that I stated above by now, so deep inside the sewers you can find the nest of the Red Spiders which are guarding 2 Red Egg Spawns, be careful though, since this is a multi area and you can get badly wounded by a team of spiders.

5.) Wilderness Graveyard of Shadows: From Level-73 to 90. This spot should work pretty good for those who are clueless about where to train at those levels, I should have a training spot for you guys by saturday. remember this is only TEMPORARY.

6.) Wilderness Ice Plateau (Ice Giants): From Level-90 to 95. So you are now a level-90 warrior eh? You still have a lot to train my friend, so start slaughtering those weak level-53 ice giants. This is located on the Northwestern edge of the F2P wilderness, So I recommend you having some teleporting runes and 43 prayer (to run away from any PKers if you don’t like confrontations).

7.) Wilderness Ice Plateau (Ice Warriors): From level-95 to 126. This is it, the last training spot you’ll ever use on your F2P game, just south of the Ice Giants you used to kill 5 levels ago you will find these enemies which can be used for training and AFK training aswell.

B.) P2P Training Areas

1.) Crafting Guild Cows: from level-3 to level-25. if you don’t know where this is, just go west from lumbridge castle (your starting point) until you reach a building that needs a 40-crafting requirements to enter, it has a gate with cows besides it, great place to train for low level players. There is also a fishing spot just south of rimmington.

2.) Relleka Rock Crabs: from Level 25 to level-65. This is simply a great training area for low level to mid level players, since rock crabs are only level-13 with 50HP, use this place wisely. If you want food you can do Frenemmik Trials and get access to it’s fishing facilites or steal fish from the Fish Stalls.

3.) Varrock Sewers (Red Spiders): from level-63-73. yep, back to those sewers, I suppose most of you should’ve all the items that I stated above by now, so deep inside the sewers you can find the nest of the Red Spiders which are guarding 2 Red Egg Spawns, be careful though, since this is a multi area and you can get badly wounded by a team of spiders.

4.) Morytania Slayer Tower Fence: From level-73 to level-85. After passing the Salve River Bridge go north to find a huge spawn of Ghouls (level-42), you can’t miss it, if you need a bank go to Canifis.

5.) Pirate’s Hall (Wilderness): From level-73-90. This place has a huge spawn of aggressive pirates, great training spot for AFKers, even though you are not likely to get attacked, keep an eye for PKers. Level-39 Thieving Required to Picklock.

6.) Dagganoths Pit (Lighthouse Basement): From level 90-95. This is a great place to train, but it’s usually crowded, just switch servers until you can find a spot. Don’t forget to bring money and noted food to exchange it in the shop in the first floor.

7.) Edgeville Dungeon’s Earth Warriors (Wilderness): From level-95 to 105. In my opinion, you could reach 126 here If you wanted, but it can get too crowded to work on those huge levels in the busy hours. Keep going north, past the Red Spiders you will find a small agility obstacle (Monkeybars) go past that and you will find the Earth Warriors.

8.) Axe Hut (Wilderness): From level-105 to 126. This place is great exp if you can find a spot for yourself, but at level-105 that SHOULDN’T be too hard to do, there’s not really much to say since the hut is very small.

9.) **Ape Atoll’s Temple (Temple Guards Level-167): From level-100 to 126. This training spot might not be the fastest (in comparison to earth warriors or axe hut), but it has almost no need for food, since you can restore your prayer points and use protect from melee. ~Thanks to Code Lyoko for the tip.

10.) Ice Throneroom (Royal Ice Warriors Level-57): From Level-108 to 115. these are mad exp, simply mad exp, it beats the axe hut by around 5-7k exp per hour, only come IF you have AT LEAST 85 defense, they are on the same room that you get the ice gloves for the Heroes Quest by defeating the ice queen, you get about 45-50k per hour if you can last long enough, remember it's multi. Also these drop no loot other than bones, so don't come here seeking for loot, because you will disappointed. MYSTIC STAFF IS A MUST HERE!

C.) Equipment (P2P):

1.) Mystic Staff: This is your best training weapon, use it on the Rock Crabs, Red Spiders, Earth Warriors, and Axe hut.

2.) Dragon Battleaxe: This isn’t somewhere near a decent training weapon, but its special is great to increase the exp accrual.

3.) **Super Sets: These are also known as Super Attack, Super Defense, and Super Strength Potions, They increase your exp accrual more than the dragon battleaxe special, but are a lot more expensive.

4.) Dragon Longsword: Use it to fight other players in the Axe Hut if needed.

5.) Dragon Dagger: Use it on the Ape Temple Guards, Ghouls, Dagganoths and pirates, DO NOT USE A POISONED ONE, because poison damage doesn’t give exp.

6.) Food:
a.) Lobsters: great for training because they are cheap and heal 12.
b.) Sharks: Excellent training food only if you can afford it.

*UPDATE: 7.) Abyssal Whip: It's as fast as a dagger and as powerful as a drag battleaxe, so it's the perfect training weapon, if you have access to it use it to train, otherwise stick to the Mystic staves/Daggers/Rune Scimitar/Dragon Scimitar (Like myself )

UPDATE 8.) Rune Scimitar: It's as fast and powerful as a dagger/mystic staff and It deals slash damage, use against Ghouls and Pirates.

UPDATE 9.) Dragon Scimitar: It's as fast as a dagger and nearly as powerful and accurate as a dragon longsword, So far I'd recommend it on Ghouls, Pirates, Dagganoths, Axe Hut, and Monkey Temple (Must have completed Monkey Madness and have an attack level of 60 to wield).

UPDATE: 10.) Strength Potions: Strength potions are the only tool that F2Pers have to boost their exp accrual (unlike members who have Dragon B-Axe+Stat restore combo and Super sets), these potions will increase 15% of your current strength level, they can be obtained from the Apothecary in varrock just for a Red Spider Egg and a Limpwurt Root or you can just purchase them from a P2P player who makes them or has them for sale.

UPDATE: 10.) Stat Restore Potions: Use these along with the Drag-B-axe special to regain any lost stats (Attack and Defense mostly) from the special's side effects.

D.) Monster AI:

I didn't really think that I'd have to write this, but since too many people can't seem to find the difference I will have to explain it, I have classified monsters in to Level-1 and Level-2 AI, which I will explain below. (LEVELS DO NOT AFFECT A MONSTER's AI LEVEL)

1.) Level-1 AI: These monsters are usually big (take more than 2 squares, but not always) and will only attack you if they bump into you or get too close (a distance of 2-3 squares), some of these are: Giants, Ogres, Dragons, Demons, Level-45 skeletons, and hellhounds. These aren't good for training, because you would have to be chasing them across the room and if you get to attack one sometimes another one will interrupt before the other monster gets an opportunity to retaliate, which means a loss of time and exp.

2.) Level-2 AI: These are the ones that we want for training, small, intelligent ones (in a way, because they are going to suicide by attacking you) that will run across the room just to get a piece of you, some examples of these are: warriors (Earth, Shadow, Ice), Pirates, Magic Axes, and other small foes.

Exceptions: So far I have found only ONE exception and that is of course, Dagannoths, even though they are big since it's multi and they have ranged attacks they WILL go after you.

I am always in the lookout for great training spots, so if I find any that can compare to the ones above, then I’ll update this.

Hill giants-they have high hp, not too high defence, they also drop big bones so this allows you to either make big money or level your prayer

Level 40-60

If you do not want to risk deaths then guards are a good option, they any good drops, the only good drops, but, they are easy to kill and have above average hp

Level 50-99

Moss giants-these are a little bit harder than hill giants but they have a higher hp total and give more xp, they also drop big bones but they aren't near a bank so collecting these is only advised if you are advancing prayer

Level 50-99

Ice giants-these are the same level as hill giants and give mroe xp, they drop mith items, and also drop big bones, they arnt near a bank so your only option is to burry them, BE Warned, these are near ice warriors and you will need to bring food as, these still hit 5's on me and, after a while without food you will die, no question! Tele runes are vital

Level 55-99

Lesser Demons in Karamja are a good source for sxp, they have good drops (i.e. rune meds which can be high alched for 11K), they have high hp but, there defence is quite good which is why i have put it at a level 55 monster.

Level 65-99

Greater Demons found in the wilderness, they are a good source of xp, they have good drops (i.e. rune full helm), they have a high hp but there defence is even higher than the lesser demon which is why they are a level 65 monster, also you are risking been player killed but, if its a low level, show them what a level 65 ranger is made of. Greater Demons are also found in the Watchtower basement (Requires partial completion of the Watchtower Quest to access, they are behind a cage and you can’t retrieve your arrows

Level 30-70

Rock crabs-these little fellows have 51 hp and hardly any defence, they do not give good loot but, if kill a few of these and you will go far

Level 30-99

Experiments-these have a massive 100 hp, that is double the rock crabs 51 hp's. These also have low defence and drop nothing but, they are very handy for leveling on

Level 40-99

Hill giants-they have high hp, not too high defence, they also drop big bones so this allows you to either make big money or level your prayer

Tele runes are vital

Level 55-99

Lesser demons in Karamja are a good source for xp, they have good drops (i.e. rune meds which can be high alched for 11K), they have high hp but, their defence is quite good witch is why i have put it at a level 55 monster. You will find that 56 ranged make lessers extremely easy

Level 65-99

EMP's GUIDE "Where To Train Magic From Level 1-99"

Where to Train combat magic from lvl-1 to level-99
By Emp

Due to popular demand and boredom I decided to write a combat magic training guide now, many of you may train magic with alchemy and teleport spells, but true mages need HP too (and some of us just die out of boredom from alching all day long), so here is how to train with combat magic.

Items needed (F2P): Mind runes, Fire runes (optional), Air runes, Earth runes (optional), Staff of Fire, Staff of Earth (Optional), Chaos runes, Wizard robes, and a sapphire amulet.

Items needed (P2P): Mind runes, Fire runes (optional), Air runes, Staff of Fire, Earth runes, Chaos runes, Wizard robes, Dragonstone amulet, Mystic Robes, Splitbark armor, food (Lobsters are preferred), and a slayer’s staff.

Stats Required (P2P only): 55 Slayer, 40 defense (get it ASAP), and any stat requirements for the quests im about to mention.

Quests that MUST be completed (P2P): Shilo Village, Family Crest (not really needed, but chaos gauntlets are a plus for any serious mage), Zogre Flesh Eaters (Undead ogres may be another target for crumble undead, but I need to confirm this), Shades of Mort’ton (if you want to get the fine clothes by yourself), and any other quest that is a requirement for the above ones.

The Perfect AFK Magic Training (P2P ONLY): Rune full armor, granite shield, slayer’s staff, air runes, chaos runes, earth runes, defense amulet (Not dragonstone), dragon vambraces, and metallic boots.

A.) Combat Magic Training Spells (CMTS for short):

1.) Wind Strike until level-13
2.) Fire Strike until level-35

At this point you can now choose between cheap levels or faster levels.

3.) Fire Strike until level-50
OR
4.) Fire Bolt until level- 50
5.) Crumble Undead until level-60
6.) Crumble Undead until level-99
OR
7.) Slayer Dart until level-99 (most expensive of all CMTS, but you can defeat big enemies to pay for the runes)

B.) F2P Magic Training areas:

1.) Crafting Guild Cows (From level-1 to level-25 magic): Yes, If you read my melee training guide you’d know that I suggest this as a basic area, why? Simple, cows have an extremely low defense against slash, magic, and ranged attacks.

2.) Wilderness Graveyard of Shadows (From level-25 to 49 magic): Use your Fire strike and/or Fire bolt behind the fence, if you happen to get attacked by another player then use a varrock teleport to get away or let him know how bolt spells work at lower levels .

3.) Wilderness Graveyard of Shadows (From level-49 to level-99): Now bring an Earth staff, air runes, and chaos runes to cast crumble undead (F2P need to cast manually though), this spell is simply great exp for the price (in comparison to every other spell).

As you may notice mages are a rather neglected class on F2P when it comes to training, but in P2P this changes

C.) P2P Magic Training Areas:

1.) Crafting Guild Cows (From level-1 to level-25 magic): Yes, If you read my melee training guide you’d know that I suggest this as a basic area, why? Simple, cows have an extremely low defense against slash, magic, and ranged attacks.

2.) Wilderness Graveyard of Shadows (From level-25 to 49 magic): Use your Fire strike and/or Fire bolt behind the fence, if you happen to get attacked by another player then use a varrock teleport to get away or let him know how bolt spells work at lower levels .

3.) Wilderness Graveyard of Shadows (From level-49 to level-99): Now bring an Earth staff, air runes, and chaos runes to cast crumble undead (F2P need to cast manually though), this spell is simply great exp for the price (in comparison to every other spell), if you are a member then I suggest getting 55 slayer at this point for autocasting crumble undead with the slayer’s staff.

4.) Edgeville Wilderness Dungeon (From level-49 to level-99): For this place you need a rather high defense (about 85) and the splitbark armor I mentioned above to fight the level-45 skeletons, this is a semi-AFK spot for mages if you use Fire Strike or Bolt, but I recommend using Crumble undead here, because the exp will be incredible if you do.

5.) Shilo Village <Inside the village> (From level-49 to level-99): Stay 1 square from the gate AT ALL TIMES, after the undead ones are killed (I suggest Crumble Undead) they release some sort of green smoke that will damage you by 3-4s.

6.) Zogre Ceremonial Grounds (From level-49 to level-99): Zogres are ogre zombies level-44, you may also find Skogres which are Skeleton Ogres, picking up the bones may be a good way to pay for the runes as soon as the market on these new bones stabilizes.

7.) Magic Guild Basement (From level-66 to level-99): This is an okay place, I’d strongly recommend the use of crumble undead (autocast of the slayer’s staff would be a BIG plus), if you run out of elementals just buy them in the first floor.

D.) The Perfect Magic AFK Technique:

Mages are the only ones able to do a completely perfect AFK training at the cost of runes of course (crumble undead works best here), gather the items stated in the top of the guide and head to karamja or edgeville dungeon (you could go anywhere else with a low level skeleton/zombie/ghost, but I just liked the places), now you should be wearing Rune full, granite shield, dragon vambraces, defense amulet, slayer’s staff, a cape (no god cape), and some metallic boots, if you have confirmed that you are wearing this and have about -55 to -66 magic attack then proceed to attack the low level undead (level-20s is the best), you should notice that the spells splat and you do not deal any damage, but still gain the basic crumble undead exp (49exp), this way you will never kill the monster and with a decent defense level (75+) you will not need much food if any at all.

E.) The use of slayer dart

Slayer dart is the spell that has the best balance of cost, experience, and damage (crumble undead gives all of these, but can only be used on undead enemies) with a max damage of 18 at level-50 for the cost of only 4 mind runes and 1 death rune this spell should work more than great in slaying NPCs that drop good items to pay for the cost of the runes.

I would personally recommend killing Metal Dragons, but there are many more NPCs that you can kill to make up for the cost of the runes such as green dragons, blue dragons, black demons, and black dragons.

If you are a level-79+ magician (with VERY GOOD luck) seeking for loot, then you should try the barrows, since most of the spirits there are melee based, magic makes it extremely easy to kill with the slayer dart in combination with entangle

-pic to come-

Note: I wouldn’t usually recommend places for loot, but since combat magic is so expensive I couldn’t leave that behind, but understand that this guide’s priority is to obtain exp as fast as you can, not loot.
