Yesterday, I went to the beach with a friend. We were at the beach and saw at least 20 red raw people out there, they obviously wore no sunscreen. I wonder why?

In Australia we have the most people that die from Sun Cancer/melanoma's each year.

Why is it that people put themselves on the edge of death, just to go out for a swim without protection from the sun?

 

I never wear sunscreen.. Then again, It never really goes over 85-90 in the summer here.

 

maybe australians think they have super thick skin which ultraviolet rays bounce off?

 

because people prefer temporary gain over long term health issues

 

People see it as inconvenient to have to put on sunscreen every single time they want to go outside, and have the "it won't happen to me" attitude. Simple as that.

 

It is important to understand that those statistics were from people who had never been educated about skin cancer.
I.e A 60 year old man with melanoma wouldn't of even had heard of melanoma before age 40, too late to change anything.

Today there is advertising campaigns and we are far more educated about skin cancer.

I personally never used to wear sun protection until the advertising campaigns got big.

 

Eh nice that its summer over there I'm stuck with the cold and snow still. Usually people tend to think nothing will happen to them if they don't put the sun screen their like ohh it'll be fine..

 

I live in Florida, and its a five minute walk from the beach. If I want to go to the beach, I'm not going to bring suntan lotion. Its too inconvenient.

They probably feel the same way. They want to go out and have a good time with their friends, stopping by the store when the beach is right in front of your house, or a block away is inconvenient.
