I don't want this to be a baww thread.
Basically i just want advice.

Every 6 months or so, I get really depressed about something. Generally its something Ive dealt with in the past or something Im dealing with atm.

I've come within inches of killing myself a few times.

Ive seen counselors, but to be honest none of them take me seriously or are irritatingly unintelligent... Im considered a "smart person" by my IQ, but often I feel like Im hopelessly stupid...

Talk to someone close to you about what ever it is that gets you depressed, and ask them for advice, like i mean a parent, brother, sister or boy/girl friend

or if u have really good friends talk to them about the problems, tell them you get very upset and try killing yourself.

what i do wen i get depressed is listen to upbeat music to lift my spirits. (my way of dealing with it)

I'm not joking when I say this, but try an go for a jog when you're feeling like this, you won't want to at the time but try and force your self to go for a jog, it will take your mind of it completely, bit to mention the health benefits.

Also try speaking to your closest friends, or even a very close family member.
If you do it a lot just remember you do it a lot and remember that everything gets better.

I go through the same thing too.
What I find that really helps is when I'm doing nothing or when I'm trying to fall asleep is just tell myself in my head that life is great. I just keep repeating it over and over in my head and sometimes
saying it out loud. I'm not psychosomatic and sometimes I have to reassure myself that I am not or it just takes over. I find that this is the best method for me.
I try to do other things than just sitting at home all day also. Like others have said go for a jog or a walk because they do help in releasing you from the placebo that you have been using like staying in your house or cutting yourself.
Sometimes you just have to accept how things are, I'm not a religious person or anything and I can accept the fact that one day I am going to die. I am not looking forward to it but I know it won't be any time soon
and ending my own life is something I would regret. Anytime that you feel like suicide is the only answer repeat in your head that "Life is GREAT!" and just think about how you can change the future and other peoples' lives. I hope this really helps.

Have you tried medication? Attempting suicide is completely different from actually killing yourself, most people who have attempted don't actually want to die they just want someone to find them in the process and care for them. If you really wanted to kill yourself you would have done it by now.

Do you mind me asking you how old you're?

All these people who are saying jog or walk to get your mind off it is true, do something out of your usual zone to forget about it, ALSO...this might be because u come in a time in ur life where u say what am i doing and u look back at what you did, i have these too but i dont get to the point where i feel suicidal i get a little depressed but ive learned that the past is the past and the future is what matters, so always just look at the bright side...last week i totalled my car and now i have no transportation to MMA training which it is my dream to be a fighter but when i crashed i said how am i gna make it there, i got depressed and started thinking of my failures but i just said u know what ill find a way, if i dont its only 1 week and i started at a early age...so everything will be ok trust me!

also if u ever need anyone to talk to feel free to PM me, add my msn, skype...and if im ever on you can always message me..

I dont know why ur counselors should not take this seriously there stupid if they do. Also [not saying this cuz i love mma but] try taking kickboxing classes or mma classes you punch alot in kickboxing and everytime i go in i forget about everything outside the gym and it helps alot to cool off and take a break from the hardships of life.

you have to find the good in life and stay clear of the bad things.

I'm a pretty happy person all the time, and it's easy being happy. Find something to look forward to. For example, a passion you have, or just an interest is fine.

For me it was writing & boxing. These two activities have seriously impacted a lot on my life. I feel a lot more free and happy now.

Try to find things you enjoy doing and do it! Always take things easy, and remember, your mind is a very strong and powerful thing!

You can choose how you want to accept things. For example, if your girlfriend left you, you can either turn suicidal and wonder why your life is in such a state OR you can take it as a good thing, at least you tried and although it is a pity that the relationship did not work out, there are still many things in life.

I went through the same thing about a year ago.. Basically all you have to do is get your mind off of it. My dad always told me to occupy my mind. It's sort of like a self hypnosis. Some things I would do even though some I hated.. Read a book, take a walk, take a shower (always helped me :o), Talk on the phone with a friend, lay on your back and concentrate on your breathing. Breath in and out and count how many times you breathe in and out. *works best if your trying to sleep. Try swapping counselors and find one that works for you. for me I need counseling AND medication which has helped out TREMENDOUSLY I have never been more happy in my entire life when I actually got help.. Good luck man and if you EVER need anything, just message me.
