I would be fine with a requirement of having a suggest sit for 3-5 days before closure; providing it isn't already on the DNS list. Thing is, most suggestions that are closed immediately are because of just that.

 

I do agree. It is a real problem that threads are closed too frequently when they should be left open for longer @Tyler. We need Tyler to stop closing threads.

 

I believe if the staff members closing the threads would pay more attention to creating community interaction and promoting discussion instead of closing suggestions threads instantly and making the section look very closed off, then people and newcomers will want to make an effort to suggest anything for the forum. Instead the consistent, immediate closure of suggestions threads, without allowing community members to participate in discussions or to voice their opinions is negative towards the site. It's not welcoming and it's not nice to be stopped of voicing your opinion.

I would agree that if a suggestion is open for a time period like 3 days then people from all over the world at different time zones can make an opinion (except it being on DNS - which at times some people are allowed to create a suggestion and it remain open and things change on the forum 'cos they were previously not allowed and now is). I also feel like some staff members are slacking a meaning to do anything and simply close threads based on their own opinion. This is a community section right? How about you (staff members that keeps closing suggestions threads) interact with the suggestions put your own in and then let others, and after a while like normal mods do if the suggestion is negative for entire community you close the suggestion.

 

I also think that even threads that contain 90% spam and 10% serious posts should be left up for at least a period of 24 hours. This could ensure that any questions that others may have can be answered by the person who originally posted it so that staff can actually determine whether its a legitimate thread rather than just being like nope we don't like your idea and then just lock it based on their opinion.

 

I provide a reason for every suggestion denial. As a brand new user you might not have the basic understanding of why some things are in place or that we sometimes do things the way they do them.

When people who suggest something that has already been talked about in length I close the thread and let them know the reason why we dont do things that specific way. If they bring something new to the conversation I dont close the thread unless the overwhelming majority are no support or the thread does not gain specific traction.
