would it be possible to add an auction type page? not sure how hard it would be or if people would use it, but i think it would be a really great idea.

Maybe this could become possible with the implementation of the bitcoin escrow system, not entirely sure how though.

 

I would love to see this happen, would we be able to sell graphics as well? On another site I'm on they have site auctions for graphics made, and you'll get rights to that certain image/picture and they'll remove the watermark for only you.

But gold/miniranks and other items would be awesome as well, they should add rules that you get 2 strikes and you're banned, if you bid on things and don't go through with buying it because it's a waste.
I also had another idea, it's similar to the point score system, staff/members could put in items for "points" say 100m EoC and people could bid on it using their "points."
Points can be earned from posting, winning comps, and just being an active part of the community.

Not a bad idea. This sounds good in theory. Depending on it's implementation method and running theorem it may be successful.

 

This is a good idea and wouldn't really be too hard to implement, however with Matthew's current commitment to SytheChat I'm not sure he will have the time to implement an Auction System so maybe we could find a premade one for this version of vBulletin?

 

People would have to be banned if they renege on their bids.

 

No Support, it would be impractical and more than likely to cause more hassle than good.

Random Issues:

• Who would be required to go first?
  Without a Sythe currency, there's no way of enforcing this. You'll have sellers avoiding delivery when their reserve isn't met and scammers simply waiting for someone to go first to them...
  
  
• Assuming buyers or sellers are forced to go first, what payment methods are going to available?
  Sythe won't be offering any buyer/seller protection. This means you'll either: force buyers to send nonreversible payments with no guarantee they'll get their goods or force sellers to take reversible payments.
  
  
• There's no way of dealing with people who fake/self bid in order to increase the price of their goods.
  
  
• Staff will have to do more trivial work. (i.e., ending auctions early, dealing with: fake bids and buyers/sellers who don't pay/deliver for silly reasons, etc.)

Unless there's a Sythe currency I don't see it happening. Plus, there's nothing stopping users from currently making a thread as an auction.

Staff/members aren't going to be giving away free money. Also, I personally hope any introduction of points won't be tradable - after the mini-monopoly that was created through what was meant to be a fun addition in miniranks.

That'd be really nice but there will be problems getting it to work and enforcing it like boxybox said, maybe a way to add an auction type automated store as a donor perk? it'll really help automate the trading system

as most auctions the seller would be responsible to go first. wether they want to use a MM or not is up to them.

I suppose while the Sythe wallet is being finalized they currency could be RSGP as 90% of the people here use it and easily MMed.
That's what a reserve is for... if it doesn't meet that price they don't have to sell it.

I'm sure it will be easily found out that someone is fake/self bidding just like vouches.

threads as auctions in my eyes are a post farm. i don't think i've ever seen one person say "ok this is going to be up for 5 days and at the end the highest bid wins." they let people bid until it gets to the price they want or the thread dies out.

Reason #1. You have friends on here whether its real or online, they will do favors for you. These type of favors will be making fake bids for you so that real potential buyers will pay more.

Reason #2. People will change their minds after winning an Auction. Although, they should be banned from bidding from an auction for 2-3 days.

 

Why not roll with my suggestion first, then if it works, try introducing a real auction with gold etc. Introduce a point score system, and throw a couple of mini ranks in every so often, people can bid using their points, and the points are automatically deducted once the auction is over.

I can see an auction for other peoples gold being a problem, but at least with mine it would increase activity. (if possible)

 

The only Problem i can see is , people making fake bids and not wanting to complete the trade after winning.

The problems outweigh any good with this one, it's not hard to contact the seller and negotiate something - and I wouldn't like to have a timed auction and potentially lose money because it ends on less than if I had just sold it at the price I wanted.

Point system wont work because where is the free money coming from..

 

Forumkorner uses a similar system to this "point system"

They basically earn points for each post/thread they create etc. I think it's like 1000 points - $1 or something like that.

 

#1) I am friends with loads of people but i don't up bid people on eBay. and this is easily remedied by "anyone caught up-bidding/fake bidding will receive a 1 month ban"

#2) would like the idea of being banned from bidding, maybe there can be a user group that the person can be added to for restricting the user from bidding. If not an infraction could be issued or some other punishment deemed necessary by staff. and it could drop back to the second highest bidder to match the bid.

i think adding a points system would be cool, pay $5 for 500 points $10 for 1000 etc., said points can be used towards other auctions, miniranks, gambling. BUT, they are working on a Sythe wallet where you can use BTC and whatever other coins there are so i think the points system would become obsolete once that is up and running.

Sometimes an auction can go for more than what the seller was wanting/expecting. Thus making the seller that much more satisfied. Auctions draw in man people because they think they will be getting a good deal. Thus expanding our user base and traffic to the site. Reserves can be st in place to protect the seller form selling it for less than what they need stopping them from losing money.
