The three students would close their eyes and while their eyes were closed, the teacher would put a hat on eachof their heads (and hide the other two hats)

Then, one at a time the students would open their eyes , look at the other two students heads and try to determine which color hat was on their own head. At the given students turn that studet could either guess what color hat he or she had or "pass".

While the first students eyes were open and that student was still deciding what to do, the other two students kept their eyes closed.

Once the first student either guessd or passed, then the second student could open his or her eyes and either guess or pass. (The eyes of the third student had to remain shut)

When the second student was finished, then the third student could open his or her eyes and either guess or pass.

Any Student who guessed correctly would have no POWs to do the rest of the semester. But any student who gussed wrong would not only have to do the POWs but also help grade everyone else's work. If a student decided to pass, then the work load would stay as usual.

The students drew numbers to see who would go fist. Then they closed their eyes, and the teacher put a hat on each ones head and hid the remaining two hats.

Arturo who was first, opened his eyes, looked at the others heads and said he wanted to pass. He couldnt tell for sure, and he didnt want to guess in case he was wrong.

Next, Belicia opene her eyes and looked at the others heads. She also thought about the fact that Arturo had said he couldnt tell. Then she said she didnt want to risk it either. She couldt tell for sure.

Carletta was third. She just sat there with her eyes still closed tightly and big grin on her face. " I KNOW what color hat I have on," she said. And she gave the right answer.

Your POW is to figure out what color hat Carletta had on and how she knew for sure. The most important part of your POW write-up will be your explanation of how she knew for sure.

reminder: Carletta didnt even look! You should also know that all three students were extremely smart, and if there was a way for them to figure it out, they would be sure to do so.
