SMS alerts

sorry if it's already asked for. Can we do SMS or push notifications for sythe alerts?

 

It's not the same, one comes to your email, this would come to your SMS or iMessage or as a push notification

 

Would be nice. But would require a database of everyone's phone numbers wouldn't it?
Also, push notifications would have to go through a mobile application which has been denied in the past.

This is true, I personally don't mind supplying my personal number for SMS, it should be entirely optional though because not everyone is comfortable with that, which is understandable.

And yet not the same thing, I'm glad you're happy with email notifications. I would like to have SMS, hence me suggesting it

Not necessarily. I implemented a SMS system for my questing and skilling service. Im pretty sure the webhost we were using had some type of support for it. Didn't pay for anything extra

 

There are fees and stuff that apply to doing this sort of thing I believe, I would like to hear sythes opinion before offering support because I do know on gold site tools it costs the gold site $0.01-$0.03 a text and more for overseas text.

I can imagine if theres 100,000 alerts total each day and half of us are set to sms alerts that would get insanely expensive.

Would like to hear if it can be done free/super cheap first.

 

Oh for sure, entirely dependent on if Sythe wants to invest. But all features are an investment in either time or money, still I would rather have the site owner tell me he doesn't want to invest in a potentially coveted feature, versus having the community reject an idea because they're having bouts of sympathy for sythe's expansive wallet

 

Something like this could do the job for Push Notifications.

Anyways, I think it would help Sythe bring back users to the site if it could send notifications. We could have notifications for computers too, which is, I believe, even easier to integrate - A bunch of sites are already doing it.

 

I personally would not use it, but I can see the appeal and would love users to have this as an option alongside the current email functionality. Support providing its cost effective and easy to implement.
