Slayer tasks that require def on a 1 def pure. [Need Help]

Hey guys,
Tried searching for an answer to this, but couldn't really find anything. I've been training combat on my 1 def pure in '07 'scape, and I got a cockatrice task, which requires a mirror shield - aka 20 def. One article I found said that if I either a) safe-spot the npc it would be ok without the shield because their attacks are melee based and b) snaring or barragin. I wasn't able to do option b) , because I don't have the required mage level (and I doubt it'll work), and I tried option a) - safe-spotting, but I got destroyed, lol. So... I'm kind of lost as to what I can do, hopefully someone on here knows.

The best thing to do is just replace the task with one from turael

 

go to a lower lvl slayer master he'll say you wanna change it its to part
