Skype Two Factor Authentication Tutorial/Guide

With Leanbean's recent hacking, I will show you how to secure your Skype account in order to prevent hackings.

By doing this as well as verifying your sythe account (click here) you will be virtually completely protected from sythe identity theft.


Follow this tutorial (Click where the blue/yellow arrow is in the photos.)

Spoiler: Step One

Click this link as listed above and authenticate your Sythe account! This is a minor inconvenience but will save you tons of stress in the event of a hack on your account(s)

Spoiler: Step Two

Open Skype, and sign out if you haven't already.

Your screen should look like this:


Click the link and log in with your microsoft account.

Once you've done that, select the Skype account that you'd like to add. Be sure that it's your business/sythe Skype!

After logging into that Skype account they're linked! Now you just need to authenticate your microsoft account.

Follow this link --> X to be directed to your microsoft account page.

Once completely logged in, navigate here:


And click here to begin the process:

Hit next on this screen:


You'll now have to select which device.

Spoiler: Step Five

The next step is device specific.
Open the app that you installed from Step One to authenticate your Sythe account, and on the app select "Add a new authentication" or something similar.

You should be able to scan the QR code. If you can't, get a better app. The Google Authenticator App is the best on all devices, hands down.

Scan the code, and enter the code that your mobile app generates onto live.com

Spoiler: Step Six

You're done, but don't exit yet! This is very important!
You will be given a recovery code. Print this out and put it into your wallet or a very secure spot. This is the only way to get back into your account if your phone is lost/stolen. If your phone and wallet are both stolen, you're fucked.

Bump on this. Took me a bit, is important and IMO should be stickied somewhere.

 

The form for removing 2fa is the same as recovering your Skype account. Meaning if someone can social engineer Skype in to recovering an account that ain't rightfully theirs, they'll also remove 2fa - AFAIK.

It's very difficult to remove 2FA via SE'ing. One would have to go through a lot of steps including knowing the mobile phone number that it was attached to. Extra security can never hurt.
