Begging: asking for free RS items, RS accounts (etc) or asking for a rank or modship on Sythe.org

This question is for Sin mainly, as most of the other staff I see break this "rule" and would be extremely biased.

~~~~~
Is it just a loophole to just ask for """donations""" ??
Is consistently harassing someone on msn for "donations*" considered "begging"?
Is Finn and Skeles (and I’m sure other mods) sigs asking for "donations*" considered begging?
Yes I'm aware that "donations*" are completely optional.... Just as it is completely optional to give beggar money.
If it is not against the rules, then can someone ask for a "donation*" of a Runescape account on the forums?
Is it unethical to use admin/mod powers to try to get suck ups to give you free money?
Just wondering, as I see many staff asking for.. "Donations*"
*Donation for their personal use
Seems like it.
Is consistently harassing someone on msn for "donations*" considered "begging"?
Yes, but it's off site.
Pretty much, but we don't get paid. It's just showing some kindness <3
Indeed it is.
No, they can't.
Not really, we don't get paid for spending a lot of time on here, modding, doing this, doing that..maybe a bit hypocritical though.
Just wondering, as I see many staff asking for.. "Donations*"
*Donation for their personal use
Answered in my opinion :)
The rules regarding personal signatures are more relaxed - for example, any user is allowed to list referral links, as long as they are clearly labeled, and donation requests are allowed as long as it's a reasonable font size.
However, users (mods included) are not allowed to post threads requesting personal donations.
Ben, your argument that it's 'off site' is a bit contradictory to the whole 'if you do it off site, we can still ban you for it' rule. You know, such as people getting banned for having botnets. As for your statement that you guys don't get paid for spending a lot of time on here, neither do regular members. By accepting your job as a moderator you automatically acknowledge that you will provide free services to the website by moderating. To be honest, moderators don't spend THAT much time moderating except a small portion. Many members would kill to be moderators, and you guys are making it sound like a burden. If it's so bad, then resign instead of complaining about how you don't get paid (this goes toward the whole staff, not just Ben).
I think the main reason for this rule was to stop people from making threads asking for items, and annoying members. I see nothing wrong with donations, but threads should not be made about them. As long as the person doesn't go around asking for donations and just leaves a little donation button in their signature, it should be fine.
As Sin said, anyone (including normal users) can ask for donations in their sig. I'm not asking for anything, nor am I expecting anything back for being a mod.
Okay that answers the part about signatures.
What about begging on msn? I will just disregard what ben said because users have been banned for "botnets" as grave previously stated which is "off site". And the user "armyofgod" was banned for offering a bribe to finn on tinychat that is off site.
Tyro even posted somethig along the lines of "if you shoot a guy in canada are you not guilty if you live in kansas?" .
Armyofgod wanted to make Finn seem corrupt by asking him that.
If I'm correct, didn't he want to pay Finn for every post count he gave him?
I think they should be allowed to ask for donations, as some sort of incentive to keep active on this forum.
Ofc they shouldn't pressure anyone or guilt trip them in anyway but then again nor should anyone.
If anyone's begging over msn simply block them.
Yes, but Jethr0x tried to infect people on Sythe with his botnet through MSN. After that, he ban-evaded on another account of his and posted a thread on Sythe trying to infect people with his botnet (still). Not exactly "off-site" if you ask me.
If somebody if begging on another forum, or on msn, it would be absolutely ridiculous to infract them on sythe for it, as it has little or no relevance to the community here. If however, somebody is actively creating and distributing malware, phishing, or something of the like, they are a possible thread to the community. If somebody's begging annoys you, simply ignore them, or block them (blocking is there for a reason).
I'm not complaining that it's annoying, I'm just simply wondering if it is against the rules for a sythe ADMINISTRATOR to go around adding people on msn for the sake of begging. What makes it worse is the "desperate need" he has for the money.
I'm not trying to rip on the guy but still I don’t like the idea of naive kids giving their money away.
Off-site is off-site for any infractable offense - the only things we care about are things that are serious enough to warrant a ban. For example, we don't infract users for flaming each other on MSN, but we do ban users who scam on other sites. Thus, if people want to beg via MSN, that's up to them.
Get your stories straight, Jethr0x did NOTHING of the sort. He was banned for being in control of the botnet - He didn't infect ANYONE via MSN. And he ban evaded so that he could just continue posting... not to infect more people.
Misinformed Prick.
