    Simple, Quick but usefull guide

    Ok, so I don't know about you guys but for me, one thing that really frustrates me is how slow it takes for my computer to restart/shut down. For vista, you constantly get these automated updates that "help" your computer at the most random times, usually when your doing something important. Once you click ok, and the computer starts shutting down and uploading the new updates it requires, the restart time is SO SLOW! It's quite frustrating to be honest. Maybe you have ran your computer for 48 hours, and you want to restart it because it is lagging and starting to move slow. Well, today I'm going to show you how you can make your shut down and restart time quicker then it currently is.

    So first thing is first. For vista user's all you have to do is click the start button, because your search bar is right there. For Xp users you will have to use the run command.

    What your going to type in the search bar is "regedit" and you should see a little program that looks such as the one below ;

    [IMG]

    Once you see the program, go ahead and click on it. If you have clicked on it correctly, you should get a screen that pop's up that looks like this one ;

    [IMG]

    Now, what you are going to need to do is double click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE." Once you double click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" you will get a list of other options, now your going to want to expand the option "SYSTEM" once you do that you will get a list of more options. Now you need to expand "CurrentControlSet." Once you have done that you will need to click (one time) "Control." Make sure you don't expand it, you just click it one time. If you have done all of this correctly, it should look like this ;

    [IMG]

    Now, I have color coded this for you from the first thing you need to do, to the last. It goes by ;

    1. Expand "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
    2. Expand "System"
    3. Expand "CurrentControlSet"
    4. Click "Control"

    Once you have done this, and you have successfully clicked "Control", and have it open. You will see a list of options to choose from.

    What your going to do now is click "WaitToKillServiceTimeOut" it should be the last one on the last. Now if you look now, before you click, under data it says "20000" that means 20 second's. What we're going to do, is change that to something faster. Once you have located "WaitToKillServiceTimeOut" double click it and you should get a little box that pop's up that looks like the one below ;

    [IMG]

    Now, in the "Value Data" box it says 20000, usually I change mine to "5000" which means 5 second's. You can change yours to 5000, 10000 for 10 seconds, 15000 for 15 second's, so on and so on. Once you have changed the "Value Data" hit ok and exit "Regedit."

    There you have it, the next time you shut down or restart your computer, it will be faster. 15 seconds faster for mine.

    I know this guide was short, but I made it because shut down and restart time is just one thing that really bugs me, when you have an update that requires your computer to be restarted and it goes slow. Its just a pet peeve of mine.

    Well, I hope this guide helped you.

    Thanks to whoever read it. I really appreciate you taking your time to look it over.

    Any questions? No problem, PM me or post here and I'll be more then happy to help.
