Silly name calling.

This isn't anything huge, but I think it may help with the staff's ability to work alongside the members of the community and actually connect with them.

Literally a large majority of the posts I see from staff on thread's they don't like include calling members idiots, stupid, ridiculous, moronic, and other things of that sort.

I know this isn't a huge deal or anything of that sort, but I do believe if the staff could simply reply to a thread or suggestion with reasoning and, even if they do feel the idea or post was stupid, not point it out and just say it isn't going to work out.

 

I see where you're coming from, but I believe that this should only be forbidden if it's an attack on certain members. If it's a sweeping statement, it's generally considered less offensive.

 

I understand it's less offensive, but it's still offensive in general.

I'm not saying it should be forbidden, but I'm suggesting this because there is a lot of drama currently between the staff and some of the general population. I think that if the staff toned down on the offensive name calling, people may show more respect, trust, and liking for them.

 

I think the "name calling" is mild at worst. I also don't believe this has contributed to the recent drama, that was a whole separate issue.

If you're offended and think that the staff has flamed, then you are always welcome to report the post.

 

I'm not offended; I've agreed with most of the statements, however I do believe it would provide for a better environment if it didn't happen.

There is no need for it, and I don't see a reason to use it - all it will do is belittle users.

 

I view it as a form of expression when used mildly.

 

If you're using it as a general term for something, then it's not a problem. Unless it's flaming someone or flaming for no reason, I don't see a problem.

 

I suppose that is a matter of opinion; one that some may, or may not, agree with. I personally do believe you can express yourself without having to call people stupid or moronic, and act at a higher level of decency.

It would help promote better relationships between them, but it really isn't necessary. Freedom of speech. I think some people are idiots but I don't say that to them unless they're making it obvious that they are.

 

I agree; we all have freedom of speech and our opinions, but I think if the staff can better relationships with the members, they should.

 

I see you're point, but you have to understand it's a forum based off video games. We can't make things too serious or we're gonna lose the fun. It could also be worse, atleast they are sensitive to race related insults and usually stay away from obscenity.

The staff members can also be very positive at times, which people even complain about, Saying they are favoring. If we get rid of the simplest forms of expression there will be none.

I don't see any benefit from making the forum more professional in a sense of expression. Have you ever emailed your boss? It would be like that, no use of lol or stupid or anything that shows any emotion.



EDIT: Maybe just a sticky saying, "dont take us too seriously, most things we say are just sarcasm, we're just having a good time. These are just words and there is no actual judgement of character being made, just innocent jokes and sarcasm" , cause that's all it is.

Legit shop is an example of why people get so upset... That didnt contribute at all and your only intent was malicious....

 

The issue there is that when they reply to peoples bad suggestions or things they don't like, and they call people stupid or idiotic, they are not being sarcastic in any form.

I'm not saying remove all emotion; I'm completely aware we are on a forum to have fun. However, the staff should try to have as best a relationship with the general population as possible.

 

Yeah, it all comes down to judgement of intent. I think the staff should just think before they say something to make sure it isn't taken as an attack against someone. As for a complete stop, I don't think that's viable or reasonable because good mods could get taken out of duty for simple name calling. Who would want their favorite mm/mod banned for calling someone stupid? I wouldn't.

 

Haha; I'm not saying they should be punished for it or there should be a rule against it, but it is my suggestion to them that if they would like to improve their relationship with users, this is an easy way to do so.

 

I agree, just think before you talk, which should be common sense.

 

This is the internet if you cant handle someone calling you an idiot, just dis connect and play with your legos.
