Eh. Mandatory? I disagree with that. However, it should be mandatory for all kids to have *SOME* sort of physical activity. If I don't want to give up a precious class for gym, then it's ok, but I should have proof of doing some extra curricular sport, or spending time working out at home, IMO.

My school (Private) requires all of us to play sports after school. Some kids like me get out of our 1 term of a team sport, but most everyone has to do at least 1 term of a team sport... Other things such as yoga and ping pong are also offered... Middle schools gets gym... I would love to have gym back... It was quite fun... Schools should be required to allow kids to have a good chunk of physical time, such as gym or recess but it should not be required to be done... Fix the US's crap health through education in required health class instead... It would work out much better I think... (Well, work out if it is taught in a good way)

It should absolutely be mandatory. The rise of obesity is getting to be ridiculous. I can't make fun of fat kids as much because it's starting to be normal to be fat. Mind you I still discriminate against obese people and love to throw insults at them as much as possible.

NO! Absolutely not. I personally rock at PE, but alot of people are very embarrassed, public changing, sweat, inability to preform the task properly, losing, and other stuff. I personally take summer gym because all of my friends do it also-only need to take 2 semesters of Gym in my school- and me and all of my friends just chill/get .5 credits for doing nothing.

So no, I don't think it should be mandatory. At all.

Edit-You sir, are a fool. School Gym will NOT PREVENT OBESITY! 45 minutes of light activity/if any will burn at tops like 100-150 calories.. And making fun of people who are obese if WRONG. And if I may ask, can we see a picture of you-holding a card with your name- for refrence of your amazingness?

Run, stay busy, become exceedingly tired, make them go to sleep so fast they can't think, and then they can't question! QUICKLY!

I don't think it should be needed to graduate in most states but definitely available. I like to lift in and out of school and PE is way fun. It gives you recess you had in elementary, in high school and it counts towards your GPA.. WHAT IS THERE TO NOT LIKE?

At my school four years of Physical Education are required to graduate. We also have to have it everyday in each grade from Kindergarten until 8th grade.

Of course not. Physical Education has nothing to do with learning. It is preposterous for them to make something mandatory for the sake of preventing disease caused by bad/unhealthy choices. It doesn't even work out the way they justify it. I'm sure many children grow up feeling resentment towards the class, and in doing so, making them more inclined not to exercise.

No, PE can make kids feel pressured and does more harm than good. It's competitive almost all the time, and "well fat kids benefit" is untrue, it hurts them the most. They're the ones feeling pushed the hardest and like it less and less.

    I could go on.

PE is meant to be competitive for those who can meet what is needed. Fat kids sit aside in my school and let the rest of us just play speedball. Personally I don't care about the fat kids, if they wanted to lose weight they'd do it. If not, who cares.

Finn, it's not even worth the effort. That person can't even describe the class of people he calls scum without making spelling mistakes, much less understand your posts :p

A 13 year old might not like learning English grammar in an academic setting, but he's going to need it when he's older. In that spirit, I think that PE should be mandatory to the extent that academic subjects are. If implemented correctly, this lesson teaches important life skills and encourages healthy living. Without PE lessons I wouldn't know how to use half the machines in a gym, play rugby, tennis or water-polo, nor would I be as motivated to exercise.

Agreed, also PE teaches you many of warm-up stances and exercises, work-out positions and more. If you find Physical Education to be a waste of time many schools offer alternative such as swimming, fitness training.

And like you said, many of student might not like to learn proper english or grammar, but it is needed.

I don't know what school you go too, but we just play different games every week and required One Mile run, or 12 Minute run to pass, never once learned about health.

I think it should be required to take, as it's a great social time, but it really isn't right that they can hold you back from graduating because your to overweight to run the 12 minute. This is my first year actually running the whole time, and I'm 250 pounds.

I think it's a good thing for schooling systems to incorporate physical education in their core courses. It teaches people the benefits of exercising and interacting with your peers, which you are not permitted to do in class. If you take a mandatory health course, you are going to be informed of eating correctly and how to properly treat your body. I don't think it's a GREAT idea, but I don't think it should be removed completely. You shouldn't have gym every other day, but possibly once per seven school days, such as my school does. I'm maintaining my viewpoint that not only does it teach you the essentials of staying fit and peer interaction, but it is a successful attempt in getting the majority to participate in daily activities.

my friend and I have this conversion a few times in gym class, were both pritty fit, I'm a state-cut swimmer, and he works out a lot. I think it should be mandatory every day, for 1 hour. And not what you may do in school actual training, team building exercises, ext. I'm not talking about ok run around the gym for 5 mins, and do 10 crunches and 10 push ups and you won't be fat anymore! jk. our gym class is ever other day, 2 weeks out of the month. so that's 5 gym days, each class is 95 mins, minus the 20 mins of changing and attendance, leaving any where form 80-65 mins of class to do actives, which we spend 10 mins doing basic stretches, and 10 push ups, 10 crunches, and 10 modified(easier) leg lifts which aren't even leg lifts it's basically moving your knees to your chest and then about alternating 30 sec of running or walking around the gym. The class then does about 45 to an hour of playing basket ball or volley ball, which isn't really fun or hard, I play volley ball. we may spend any where form 10-20 mins doing anything they want us to do, this week were playing handball, incredibly stupid.

    Doesn't everyone love gym class?

Its basically a break during the day where you can let your stress out and play sports.
