Should Marijuana be Legalized?

I find it hard to believe this thread wasnt already made, if it was, can a Mod please lock this thread?

The title practically explains it all. I think if it was legalized, it would have its pros and cons - cons mainly being that the government would tax the shit out of it and it would soon become the new cigarette.

Opinions?

No it shouldn't first of all i live in The Netherlands where it is already legal. I see the youth & older people getting their life's screwed with it. It litteraly kills brain cells wich makes them dumber and dumber every time they inhale it. I am also against cigarette's and alcohol.

Thats just ignorant. Totally ignoring the thread come with statements why it should be legalized. Alcohol and cigarettes are also bad. It's just government making money with killing/damaging people. Makes no sense , and yet they complain about paying more on health care. No shit first make the people ill and then complain about it , ayy?

 

I've lost too many people, including my best friend and my father get lost in that. It changed them. And eventually one started doing meth and one started doing heroin. And THOSE are worse than anything you can possibly take. So no, it shouldn't be legalized.

 

Cigarettes and alcohol are perfectly legal, and heck it's already easy enough to get your hands on marijuana. Just legalize, regulate, and tax, everyone wins.

 

I'm very sorry to hear that. You shouldn't generalize harmful substances with already illegal drugs that are much worse. I would much rather see close friends smoke weed than do meth, knock on wood.

Marijuana should be either legalized or banned along with alcohol and cigarettes. I support either one of those.

From a pothead's point of view, it's a way to relax and basically chill and there's no down side. From the government's side, it's a prescription herbal drug that should not be abused. However, along with many other people, I fail to see how that differs from alcohol and cigarettes except the government taxing those instead. I can care less how much each substance affects the human body different as long as they're under the above suggested negativity. Because of that, it should be either legalized or have everything else banned too.

Marijuana is considered the gateway drug. Couple kids im my class who are pretty bright are total potheads, and among their group of friends I heard them during Statistics class that some of them were "down for doing Coke", unfortunately one of those people was my teammate for bball, I'm not sure if he did it or not, I'll ask.

Also, I sat with some of them at lunch the other week and they were talking about how marijuana doesnt hold any effects on them anymore and taking "days off" so it did. Its pathetic that it gets to that limit.

Everything in moderation is fine. I don't neccassrily think it should be legalized, but it should absolutely be decriminalized. No one deserves to have their lives ruined because they smoke weed.

 

I was referring to the properties of it which lead to other drugs. With my dad it went Marijuana--> Alcohol--> Everything else that you could name

 

First, there already is a Marijuana legalization thread it just has to be dug up, I'm very surprised a mod hasn't locked this yet.

Second, the only 2 problems with marijuana are its health effects (Vaporizers or ingestion negate these) and it being a "gateway" drug, which I find hilariously ridiculous.
People that do harder drugs are already predisposed to doing them, they didn't do marijuana and because of it got the idea "hey I should do crack!". No, if there was no marijuana the setup wouldn't change.

If the setup went: Tobacco --> Marijuana --> Meth then I can probably bet that if marijuana was taken out of the picture then it would just be: Tobacco --> Some other drug --> Meth.

What about people that do harder drugs first and then smoke?

This whole gateway concept is just a simple easily disproved idea that doesn't really have much science behind it. It just looks at one situation with close-minded vision. If someone smokes weed and then goes to a harder drug it makes it into the study, not the many other variables this situation can take.

 

I dont think so, i think if it was legalized major companies would get a hold of it and do alot of chemical stuff to it and mess up the flow and prices of it. I think they should make the laws against weed very very very minimal though.
