Should I apply for a job at Jagex?

I have been coding on and off on private servers for I think about 7 years now.
Because of life and work I had to put my project on hold probably for good.

But being me and knowing the time I spend on coding the unique features and stuff in the server I would hate seeing it go to waste since releasing a source I build from scratch seems to be a no go since most if not all would probably not know how to fully use its potential I was thinking of maybe making some videos showing off the stuff I created in a Runescape 3 source and sending it over to Jagex and maybe apply for a job.

Now I do not know if this would be a good idea and if they would even respond?
But since this was a solo project I coded in several unique things that Runescape doesnt even have for example some custom bosses using special mechanics,full working skills including a new exp system rewards and area, agility areas including minigames and several minigames that are worked out into the smallest details.
Also when I posted a video about it on another forum multiple times 2+ weeks later an update would come out in the real runescape using the exact same idea and this happend several times now I am not jumping to conclussions here but if it happens 4 times in a row it makes me a little suspicious.

Anyway I would love to have some input on this mather I will probably even make some videos and post them here.

 

Think about it this way: why not?

If you get the job, it could be the best thing ever. If it isn't, you can simply leave on your own terms. If you don't get the job, at worst you wasted a few minutes/an hour pinning up your resume/cover-letter. Remember, you miss all shots you don't take. Good luck dude.

 

I'd say give it a try however in an oldschool runescape stream where they answered questions I heard them say they only consider hiring people who have finished college for what they're applying for, not sure if it's the same for rs3, but honestly just go for it anyway if you feel you have something good to offer them.

 

I applied once for a job with Jagex and didn't get through their screening process since they will rarely consider anyone who isn't in university or already has a degree.

That said you lose nothing by applying, just keep in mind it might be better to make your application very unique to get it through screening if you lack the typical education requirements they look for.

Like others said, its definitely worth the shot. Are you living in the UK though? Because if not it probably wouldn't be in your best interest to apply there anyway.

 

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. If you never try you always live with regret, if you do try to apply you can see what they offer / if they offer.

 

I dont think that should necessarily deter him from applying. They've hired plenty of people outside the UK. If you have the skills they're looking for, why not apply? Besides, from what little I've seen, Jagex seems to be a revolving door of opportunity for the coders hired there. Its a good position to "get your foot in the door" but turnaround rates must be pretty high considering the pay for entry level is meh

 

Would be cool to work for Jagex, However is the rumors about bad pay true?

Why not. i would try it if i was you, worst thing which will happen is you'll get rejected. but if you dont apply. you'll never know. GL
