I just don't see how you can be against making the discussion public. In no way am I saying make the vote public because then idiots like me would be the ones voting, but I don't think everything should be under lock and key in the LSL/USL. At the very least the user that applied should be able to see the full discussion and voting results of their application. I don't think the discussion of someone's entire application should be summed up in 2-3 bullet points. @Tyler @Azie would you guys be against the person applying seeing their own application?

The only thing that I wouldn't be opposed to would be revealing the final count. So applicants would get a PM with the bullet points that they get now as well as a message saying: Your poll resulted in a 6-3 vote, etc.

I remember when I wanted CDT apps public... the argument was people will copy the applications.

People say members are biased, but clearly staff are too. Especially when it's apparent one staff can sway other staff votes.

So you have applications that are personal and able to be copied. Why would you want to show them. You can't unless you want the next batch of mods to copy the previous.

And you can't really see what staff discuss about an app when you can't see the app. Also same with the community.

Things should definitely be transparent though.

    Ok,
I support making everything that's hidden public pardon etc, but that's not gonna happen so let be realistic,
I can see why moderator applications are hidden,
So I support only one thing on this thread sadly,
    Making the final number visible,
This means no information about who voted for who etc,
    Just quite literally the number,

    Example I go to vote,
All staff vote no (obv l0l),
The result are shown 0-11 shown to the public and nothing else.

It never is summed up in 2-3 bullet points. Pretty much every staff members gives an opinion and reasons for why they would support or not support an application. I think you guys should be a bit more specific about what you mean when you say transparency.

I also don't think there is anything against asking a staff member for a more detailed reasoning as to why you were denied. I'm sure we can explain to you what the reasons were as long as we don't leak SL only material that was posted.

I'm not so sure about how many people would want to make their applications public anyway. A lot of people prefer the privacy.

I don't know tbh. I can see why it would be a good idea. But in the end it doesn't make much of a difference because you're told the reasons for denial.

With the nature of this community, mod applications public for community will just cause so much drama. Although spam forum activity will increase by 200%...

Vote count at the end would be cool though.

No support in relation to an entire thread. I am fine with a post count and if someone wants particular information about their denial, they can send a PM to upper staff and gleam more insight. Individuals whom are denied are informed why and they can always request more information.

I have zero interest in providing an entire thread to a user that was denied/accepted. Why? Because people take things personally and if they find out x staff rejected them, it will possibly lead to them being aggressive towards said member(s). Staff need to be able to openly state their reasons of support/no support without worrying about the Sythe member's reaction towards them.

I think it's funny how when people get denied they think that the staff are out to get them. There is no reason why any portion of the mod application should be public. Keep contributing to the site and being a genuine person and your time will come. You guys are lucky enough that there are applications now. The staff used to just throw names out and vote on whoever was suggested, at least now you can guarantee that you are even being discussed as a potential staff member. I just don't see the need to change it from how it is now.

To be fair if you get rejected even without getting told why it's probably for a good reason, it's not like the old days where it was one or two people could throw a promo poll out of the window in the USL.

I'm against even the moderator application process to be honest, but in its current form just leave it as it is, no need for transparency on every single little thing on here.

There is way too much emphasis on trying to become a moderator on this site. That information needs to stay under wraps to avoid a public shit-show.

I just want to chime in that this is not at all the reason why the report a scammer section was opened up to all replying. Upon switching to Xen, there is non option to only let staff and the OP reply to a thread. It's either staff only, or everyone. Obviously if people can't reply to a thread, then more scam reports will be not completed by a confused newbie trying to report someone. Therefore the decision was made to allow everyone to reply, but restrict it with handing out infractions for missuse.

I want to respond to the "old boys club" as there is no actual basis for the assumption.

All of staff votes on applications with upper staff doing the final round. Staff is seldom split on applications and the users that had 12-0 yes in lower staff had their results mirrored in upper staff. We do not operate in a bubble, we are a team, and the only person that had the ability to act unilaterally is big rich.

If individuals have specific questions about their application, they can PM a moderator; hell, PM me and I'll give you all the details I can.

So basically, it will remain as is. If a user is denied and wants more information, they can request it and will receive it.
