Sent BTC via Coinbase to the wrong address

Just wondering,

Does anyone have any information on the outcome of this? I accidentally put in the the wrong CB email, and sent $50 BTC to some random person I guess.. I contact Coinbase support but haven't heard back yet. (this occurred about 5 mins ago). Any comments would be appreciated.

& yes, it was stupid not to copy/paste the email.

Quite unlikely it was a real other account. If it was, gg money for sure. But, I guess it might bounce/be in limbo if not? Google is your friend here

edit; Just googled. Heard someone recommend creating an account under the email you accidentally sent to. Other than that, within 30 days your btc should bounce back to you.

 

I successfully retrieved my funds! That was intense lol.

Then of course it said the email was taken.. so he sent me the Coinbase support, and I sent them an email.. But he came up with a BRILLIANT idea. He told me to see if the hotmail was taken, so I did! I created the hotmail, and it wasn't taken. He then said to say "I forgot password" so I recovered the account through the email. Sure enough, my $47 was sitting there! xD.

Just a note to anyone who reads this in the future, as I've had this happen before (I think I meant to send money to laziz and entered the wrong email).

If the funds aren't claimed by an account by the end of that month they'll be refunded to you.

 

If you create an new coinbase with the new email after the payment was sent, could you still get the money?

 

Only if you have access to that actual email address. If that email is already taken, no.

For example, you accidentally send $100 to [email protected] instead of [email protected] - you can't make an account to claim the money because [email protected] isn't an email address you're able to make, so in turn you wait to the end of the month and the money is refunded to you.

 

The email I sent the BTC to thankfully was not taken. So I created the new hotmail account, and then made a new account on Coinbase. I finished verifying and everything and my $50 was sitting there lol. - I actually made $1 on the whole ordeal
