I'm the opposite of Swan. I feel everyone deserves respect, however, I don't respect preteens or children. They're hyperactive brats as far as I'm concerned. But I felt that way all through school..

I grew up around old people, I wasn't babied, I was educated by them for all of my life... so when I began to mingle with younger people, it didn't work too well. Killed my social life, you could say. However, I learned to respect people, and behave like a gentleman.

Ie. Open doors, listen when people talk, speak when spoken to, not behaving irrationally in public, saying please, calling people sir or ma'am, etc...

It's just manners... It's not seniority that matters. If you're a disrespectful prudent asshole, that's where they treat you with crap. You may not see it, but 99.9% of you act like idiots, and don't even realize it.

    Just my knowledge :D.

I don't like judging people until I get to know them.

The only time i respect seniority is at the workplace, and that only goes with how long you have been there.

But at school people are like..seniority blah blah blah.

    Im just like..stfu

Are you implying that because I don't show respect means I don't use manners? If I didn't, nothing would get done (even though I dislike the idea of adhering to universally accepted traits such as using manners, it is a general requirement to work with a society).

well it depends on the situation like i try not to swear in front of older people and i tend to help older people get through doors and carry their groceries and stuff like that but if some old guy comes up to me and does something disrespectful i wont just stand there and take it

Seniority is a standard in our society that says we should treat people who are older with more respect, just because they are older.

Just wondering what you think about seniority.

I personally think its complete bullshit. Nobody should be respected if they haven't earned it. I mean, I'm not going to respect a 30 year more than a friend who is my age JUST because he is older.

I know some of you might say "well you're going to believe in it when you're older" and you're probably right. The thing is, we're taught all our lives that we should treat older people with more respect, and when you reach that age it's just something that you expect to happen.

    So, post your thoughts.

    agreed for sure.

I'm not a huge fan of old people at all, but I respect them enough to give up my seat to them on a bus.

The only people older than me that I respect are in my family and some of my teachers.
