I built a solid upper mid tier gaming PC about 5 months ago. However, I've been given the opportunity to upgrade on a deal that is nearly too good to pass on. The only way I would consider it, though, is if I could sell my current setup.

I feel as if PCs are somewhat difficult to resell for whatever reason. One of these reasons is the inability to sell online as shipping costs would be ridiculous.

Has anyone ever tried to sell a used PC before? If so, how did that go?

    My setup:

    Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
    MSI GTX 1660 Ti GPU
MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max Motherboard
    16Gb DDR4 Ram
    250gb SSD
    1TB HDD
    650W Power Supply
    Windows 10

I spent about ~$1,250 building the PC and would probably try to get $850 or so for it. It's in like new condition.

    Ryzen 5 3600 CPU = 207 At Walmart.com
MSI GTX 1660 Ti GPU =270 AT Dell.com
MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max Motherboard =135
    16Gb DDR4 Ram = 70 for crosair
    250gb SSD = 40
    1TB HDD = 60
650W Power Supply = 90 for evga AT walmart
    Windows 10 = free

    Total $872.

I've resold a couple of PC's between 2-3 years old. Yours is fairly new however so you should get near or over your asking price. I personally would drop an ad on craigslist or another one of the open market irl apps and see what you can get for it. Hell, even Ebay might work. I actually sold both of mine via CL.

it seems these people are giving terrible advice for selling

either sell the whole thing in one piece locally, or part it out online, it's really the only safe way to do it. Never sell/ship the whole thing unless you really want to pay for insurance and shipping costs, and that's hell due to how big it generally is.

    recommendations would be

    reddit.com/r/hardwareswap
ebay (ur gonna lose 10% of ur profit tho)
    facebook marketplace

I've sold about 20 things on hardwareswap, just make sure you trade/sell with people who have rep. :)

If you sell it to a sucker locally you might get $800. Realistically thats like a $500 rig, and is decidedly lower mid.

The 1660ti is a pretty shit value proposition, depending on clocking and speed of the ram it might fetch $60, HDDs are stupid cheap and SSDs are cheap compared to the better m.2 drives.

I've done a ton of trading, buying, and selling on hardwareswap. If you posted that on there for $900 you'd get laughed at. Paying $1200 for that you basically got ripped off.

Edit: 5 months is long enough that your pc isn't 'like new', not that it really means anything. Used is used.
