In order to find out the "max" your computer can handle, we'll need to know exactly what motherboard your using.

Unfortunately no, unless you tell me the socket type.. even then its really no help.

Different motherboards can handle different RAM (DDR types, single, dual, tri channel, various voltages and speeds). Buying incompatible RAM may cause your motherboard to short circuit, not post or run extremely slowly.

Incompatible voltage will do that unfortunately. Most manufacturers will RMA it for you if you claim it was DOA.

    DDR SDRAM DIMMs?

All I've ever seen are 100 pin DIMMs and 180 pin DDR SDRAMs.

2 gigs is the max you can handle, its obvious because your motherboard is going to be good enough to handle that, and i know you dotn ahve 64-bit operating system so 2 GB is the max your computer will recongnize, you might aswell go to www.crucial.com use the ram scanner, then get the type of ram you need and buy 2 1 GB sticks because i doubt your motherboard can recongnize a 2gb stick by itself but 2 1 gig sticks will work

I will let you know RAM is by far the EASIEST thing to upgrade on a computer install wise, hell its even easier then the damn hard drive.

Just holds the 2 ends firmly and pull out and it should come out fine. When you go to put the new RAM in make sure its all lined up and press pretty hard but super hard and it should fit right on.

When you go from 512 to 2 GB RAM you will love it.

PM if you need any further assistance.
