What do you think of them? Do you support the Government giving out tickets for unbuckled drivers?

If a fully grown adult does not want to use seatbelts for protection, is it moral for the Government to fine them for failing to take care of themselves? Does this change when talking about underage children? Why?

    Hey,

I do agree with the law, and think seat beats should be warn. If the driver dose not want to wear it, they should. The seat belt not warn can lead to someones death, and alot of un-happiness for the family. They will miss the person; ALL because he/she did NOT wear the seat belt. And i think its the governments issue to solve that by giving out tickets to save LIVES.

    Cheers!

I do think the law should make a compulsary seatbelt law. It will protect people - it's for their own good.

If a parent won't ride with their seatbelt on, why would their child? The law makes it so that children can learn from their parents, who have to follow the law. While it is your discretion whether or not you would like your head to go through the windshield, the law instills responsibility in both the generation that acts and the generation that learns.

Dead and injured people cost money, that's why.
If an accident happens and everybody wore their seatbelts, casualties are lower, so that lowers medical costs, etc.

    and this:

Yes, Seatbelt laws are justify, the government have a responsibility to take care of its citizen's well being.
Plus more tickets equal more cash for the government.

Government owns the roads, so sure they can. I know they have a monopoly on roads, but that's a separate issue.

Enforcement by fear of punishment is the most inefficient way to get people to do something.

Also, fear of getting mutilated, etc. They do apply a bit of pressure during school education to wear them.

Why do you care about other people's safety if they don't even care about their own?

Well seatbelts allow the driver to stay in control of their vehicle in an accident situation, so making it a rule to wear one sounds good to me.

I don't want the guy sitting behind me on the bus to come flying through my seat if the bus crashes. That could kill me, fuck his safety.

yeah QFT I don't know what he's talking about. But in most cases you will be safer on a bus if it crashes than a personal car.

The laws were established for your protection, if it was not against the law to wear your seatbelt, some people wouldn't bother use them. But because it is the law, more people wear seatbelts. It's also a source of revenue for many small towns adjacent to major high ways.

I don't know what country you live in, but I know for a fact that school buses in the US don't have seat belts:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A63970-2005Apr18.html

I know if it wasn't a law, that I'd still use a seat belt, because I know it would save my fucking life if I got into a car crash. All you have to do is educate people that seat belts save lives, and they will use a seat belt, not because they don't want to pay a small fine, but because they don't want to die.

You are going about this the wrong way. This is not an argument about how much the government loves you, it's about freedom. You're assuming that it's ok for the government to take away freedom if we get protection in return, this is horribly wrong, as stated by Benjamin Franklin:

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Benjamin Franklin

You are giving up your freedom to make your own decision about wearing a seat belt, and in return you have the government make the decision for you, and take money from you if you don't obey them. We are slowly giving away our freedoms and responsibilities to the government, and letting them make all the decisions for us. The end result is totalitarianism.
