Search for user feature

Im not sure if this is possible, but if it is I think it'd be a really helpful feature.

On sythe to find someone you either have to have had a PM with them to be able to find their name and then click it to get to their profile, or you have to find a post they made to get to their profile, or the worst of all ways, search the member list. So I think that if you could type someones name into a search bar on Sythe, it would be much easier to find them. This is very convenient, especially when trying to find a guy with 3 posts who tried to scam you.


If this feature already exists, I have not been able to find it.

 

To be honest, I would LOVE to have this feature. However there must be a few good reason it is not used anymore. I know it used to be enabled, although now as you can see, it give you a message "Userlist search disabled due to abuse." I'm assuming the abuse meant people using it to find inactive accounts to try to hack, or more likely to try to overload the server by using multiple bots to search. Searching can brings a big load on the servers. I think it would be a nice feature that certain level donators could have, so a few people could still use it, but not to the point where it would be heavy on the server. I wouldn't want it to be available to everyone though because then it would just be abused again. So I support to a degree.

 

I'm also thinking it was because of abuse. I usually just google "sythe [persons username]" and the first result is usually their profile.

 

I agree with scottayy. This would definitely be a great feature and it would be very beneficial, but I'm sure there are reasons for why it is not implemented.

It says "Memberlist search disabled due to abuse" when i click on that, it doesnt work.. we need a new option to search users

 

Well maybe there is some way that the feature could be improved upon to prevent abuse.

 

The search for user feature was removed by Sythe because of people overloading the server. It's only available to the staff of Sythe.Org now, and I doubt it will ever be put back into place for regular users like you and me.

 

Maybe they can make it only for donators? or only for high post counts? Something like that to reduce the abusers

 

I support this but from the looks of it.. its not going to happen.

Yeah, I just google "Username Sythe" and usually something pops up and it's smooth sailing from there.

Support. I dont know the abuse circumstances but I don't believe people would still try to abuse it.

 

That would be completely unfair, this sort of things should be staff only, or for everyone.
I'm not saying that because i do not have a donators rank, and i simply google people.
And i support this, i can't make up a reason how this can be abused, can someone give me an example?

 

Like previously stated, the site can be overloaded by people botting the search user feature. Maybe if you could only search ever 60 seconds or you had to enter a security code before you searched.

It's still disabled from abuse for normal users : (

 

Go to search at the top.
Advanced Search.
Look at the right of the screen and it gives you the option to search for user's usernames there, wait a sec or two after typing in the name and a dropdown box appears with all names the same/similar to that one.

 

I know, but it doesn't allow for a direct member search (the one SMR linked), which should be allowed.
