The fact of the matter here is that there is not enough people doing scam reports. This thread isn't about getting into being scammed, also, if it prolongs the person from scamming who has say 600 posts and 10 vouches, by banning them and forcing a new account (ban evading) it clearly helped because now that person would have to gain more trust to be able to scam again.
I understand if leecher reports don't get done, it's not hard to gain that amount. If there is multiple reports of people who are decently trusted, they should be dealt with...
Scam reports are hard to deal with. They take time and a ton come in every day. If you didn't notice, we just lost more than one mod and school has recently started for many of our staff members giving them less time to volunteer their time.
Plus, banning scammers doesn't help very much. People need to learn how to not get scammed.
I agree. I keep rethinking this over and it just doesn't get more true. It's much more important to stop and educate scam victims into not getting scammed the first time, rather than dealing with the consequences otherwise.

Your assumption of how 'there is no actively' is incorrect. A few of us actively read reports and build up cases(usually without replying). I recently banned the user 'hello111' after consisting seeing him involved in an impostor scheme.
Yet as other staff have mentioned, it's impossible to truly ban someone. Every day I ban 3-10 users for ban evading, which tells you something. It's possible to change your IP in five minutes, and some people, such as my self, have their IP changed naturally multiple times per day.
With regard to the lack of middleman claim, I'm afraid your argument is completely fallacious. I'm a free middleman, and haven't gotten any requests worth $50.00+ in five days. Inventor is an official who only charges a small flat rate of $5.00.
Many more users in the middleman forums are able to handle the common, lower-level Sythe trades free.
Something we need to do is focus more on prevention/recognition. Newbies need to be linked to guides as soon as they're registered, and more of these guides need to be written.
I accept every payment method. Stop generalizingAlright sure, I understand that. I don't think you're seeing what I'm saying. Who cares if a leecher, or a member like me scams someone or someone with 100 posts and 2 vouches. They are NOT trusted, and it's your own fault.
It's the people who get multiple reports, have over 500 posts, have 10 or more vouches, they should be the ones being IP banned. Not all of them know how to change their Ip, and if they do, they have to make a WHOLE NEW account anyway, and re-gain all of that trust they used to scam in the first place.
Official middlemen only accept verified Paypal, right their you're limiting SO many people to have to trust one and other, use a non-official middleman, etc. If Middlemen accepted non-verified Paypal it would make things way easier for everyone else and prevent scamming as well. The whole reason I was scammed was they don't accept unverified paypal or I wouldn't have been scammed.
Like I said, I don't care that I got scammed but there should still be something done to those 'trusted' users that continue scamming. They get away with it and it's stupid.

There are many users who help you guys with finding ban evaders. For example, I reported one a month or two back in the Report a Scammer section. Should be fairly easy to tell that he's ban evading with what I posted, and yet he was never banned for it. It was a couple weeks later that he was banned for scamming again (I believe so anyways). Some cases can be dealt with just by looking and taking a minute or two of your time to look into it.[N]ick;5414624 said:Yet as other staff have mentioned, it's impossible to truly ban someone. What is an example of a guide you'd like to see? PM it to me and I'll try to write one out. Hopefully other people will do the same.[N]ick;5414624 said:Something we need to do is focus more on prevention/recognition. How are you a market mod without report a scammer perms? I thought that came with the job since it would only make sense

Actually sectionals are only allowed to have perms in their own section and globals are supposed to handle scam reports but since that didn't happen, they expanded report a scammer perms to sectionals who desired to help. Its quite the load though, it can take up to an hour to ban just one person because of all the searching, investigating, verifying, etc.
