Scammed using middleman

Explanation of the trade: A 200M 07 (Mine) trade for $136 BTC.
Middleman agreement was reached where @Meowth would supervise it.

How they scammed:
Everything was going alright until the end when my 07 was transacted to @Meowth.
The scammer created a FAKE (Pageth#6815 Discord) and verified he received payment.

The scammer was able to create two chats with a two different Geoffrey @Meowth.

Note: Despite verifying in the beginning of the trade and towards the end, it didnt matter.

The scammer creates two profiles.IMPERSONATOR of middleman and IMPERSONATOR of the OSGP SELLER.

The scammer creates two chats.
Chat 1: Impersonator of middleman and REAL OSGP Gold Seller and SCAMMER

Chat 2: Real Middleman and IMPERSONATOR of OSGP Seller and SCAMMER

______NOTE: The Scammer creates BOTH Chats so he can delete them later and there is no proof____

The trade goes normally like any trade but the scammer and the impersonators are relaying messages back and forth. You cannot verify if this is actually happening because they are simultaneously relaying messages back and forth. This is also undetectable because of Discord Nitro and the discord name bug which allows people to create the same user name and tag.
Even tho, the middleman confirms the identity of the SYTHE user through "Mutual Servers", it's hard to distinguish whose who because of Discord Nitro.
+ It's impossible to detect a mirror chat.
+ The scammer has a overview of everything going on and can ask basic questions like 'whats happening'

Group chat 1:One Geoffrey#2398 and BangBang#4491 was created with me (Pageth#6815)
Group chat 2: Real Geoffrey#2398 and BangBang#4491 was created with FAKE (Pageth#6815)
The scammer created two different group chats with the fakes.
They were able to talk in SYNC and confirm everything. At the end, I didnt receive the money and @Meowth received confirmation from the FAKE (Pageth#6815) and the scammer received the money
^ There was no online symbol.


Note: ^ I was in a totally different discord chat. I can't prove this because the scammer had control and he deleted the chat logs.

The scammer (Loner) create the group chat and was able to delete the group that when he received the money. There is no history of these chat logs

I was scammed 500M yesterday 6/30/2018 But it was because I was dumb.
Story: We got into contact with a offical middleman, Confirmed identity through DM and everything.
But I wasn't paying attention and he created a new chat with the imposter middleman.

Suggestion: Create a Instant Message System on sythe. Literally all the most used messaging system has a scam of this nature.

 

@Pageth - Just from a glance this appears to be a man in the middle scam, as @lonesurvivor16 has been banned multiple times for doing this.

Did you ever ask for a confirmation PM from @Meowth to confirm you were trading with the correct one?

 

@Pageth & @Meowth - In a deleted post from both of you upload the trade screenshots including RSNs as well as the ones posted in the confirmation PM + Discord chat.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is a glitch or what but the picture I showed of two "Geoffrey#2398" is now only one. When I search 'Geoff' now it only shows one "Geoffrey#2398". I'm not even quite sure if this was a visual glitch or part of the scam.

 

Been getting at least 15 people trying to get me to middleman since this happened (or 1 person?).

I've decided to stop my middlemanning services as I'm really uncomfortable with what has happened.

Not sure what it's worth, but got sent this, so it seems like someone is still actively trying to impersonate me:

 

Potential SAME SCAM that happened. I recommend putting a warning out there in the Middleman directory. @ryanm17 @Chemist People are impersonating both parties and creating two different chats.

Same Situation: Duck is a scammer!

 

After reviewing this and speaking to other staff members, @Meowth will be responsible for the 200M 07 as there was no solid confirmation that the BTC was traded. When MM'ing a trade you are expected to go above and beyond in terms of confirming, since this was a BTC transaction, I would always request the wallet address / blockchain transaction (coinbase should be confirmed with gif/video on Sythe since there is no transaction for cb to cb).

I would agree with the above if a similar ruling would have been made in all of the other trades where the middleman would have been put responsible. Now for the firsrt time in all of these cases, the ruling falls down on me?

I feel like I did the necessary in this trade, way more than the absolute minimum that we have seen in the other instances. The confirmations on Discord and Sythe show this.

I try to offer a free service to give back to the comminity, with nothing for me to gain. I'm sorry with how this situation unfolded. I disagree with the ruling. You either apply this to everyone, or you can consider this my no.

 

All the middlemen here on Sythe should provide proof that they do what is being put in my shoes as a fault? I can assure you that you can go ahead and close 99% of the threads there because not going above and beyond. Ridiculous.

ONLY AFTER ALL THIS HAPPENED, WE HAVE MADE PROGRESSION IN DETECTING WHAT HAPPENED HERE AND THAT DISCORDS CAN BE DUPLICATED EXACTLY, AND WE CAN WORK WITH THE DISCORD UNIQUE CODES (THANKS TO @Dieze). I PERSONALLY WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT IDS WERE UNIQUE.


I AM HERE TO HELP OUT WHERE I CAN, AND I NEVER SCAM, THIS 200M WOULD HURT MY POCKET MORE THAN ANY OTHER TRADER HERE THAT IS HAVING ACTUAL GOLD SALES OR A SIDE INCOME ON SYTHE.

I FEEL LIKE I DID MORE THAN THE MINIMUM WHEN GUIDING THIS TRADE, AND GIVEN THE OTHER SIMILAR INSTANCES THAT JUST GET CLOSED, I AM FEELING THIS RULING IS EXTREMELY UNFAIR.

I AM SORRY ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO PAGETH, NO DOUBT, BUT STATING THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TRADE GOING WRONG AND OBLIGATED TO REFUND MONEY I NEVER TOOK OR HAVE AVAILABLE, I CAN'T ACCEPT.

 

- If a "Middleman" trades the funds over to another person, they too will be responsible for the funds. It's a very unfortunate situation, and if @Pageth isn't worried about the funds, then you won't be responsible for them. But ultimately if he deems you to pay him, you will be DNT'd until he is paid.

Next time when you're middlemanning, make sure the BTC is sent with transactions, and please make sure the conversation matches with the user before handing funds that is not yours away.
