Runescape on the PS3??

thank you. someone who understands what i am looking to do

 

I actually looked up the answer to this a while back (for Wii browser as well) and it said Java would not be able to be installed, so unless there's some 1337 hacker way that works, I don't think you can.

Try looking for alternatives, like the laptop as suggested. Maybe a really cheap laptop and a cheap projector so you can project the laptop screen onto a wall in your room?

 

My friend tried it, he kept having problems with the java applets not loading etc.

btw does the ps3 even have a keyboard input?

Ubuntu and maybe a windows emulator? I've never gotten ubuntu to work for me, probably cause I used such an old computer that it took more then 5 hours and still hadn't loaded the live disk.

Even getting it working, the control scheme would be tits up. Keyboard input ja, mouse input, no. Analog stick to point and click with X, have fun.

I was thinking bout getting a PS3 if i can play rs on it ill buy sooner...

 

Graphics on Runescape would have to improve ALOT before I would consider trying to mess around with it on my PS3.

And I kind of imagine that since Java is for computers (correct me if I'm wrong), it would mean that the people from Sony would not incorporate the ability for the PS3 to house Java, since it's used for Tv's?

The GNU Java Runtime 1.4.x does not work with "websharewoa". The IBM Java 1.5 for PPC-32bit Linux does. The following steps are required to get it working:

# yum install compat-libstdc++-33 (Installs "/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5", which is required by the IBM Java.)

Download Java from: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux140/ and use the follwing commands to install the Jave runtime:

# rpm -i IBMJava2-142-ppc32-SDK-1.4.2-1.0.ppc.rpm
# /usr/local/helios/bin/stop-helios
# ln -s /opt/ibm/java2-ppc-50/jre/bin/java /usr/local/bin/java
# /usr/local/helios/bin/start-helios -i

Don't see the point unless your not meant to play rs but you are on rs on the ps3
Don't know if this is possible but if it is then it'd be a great addition to the ps3 capabilities
