RuneScape Item scamming

No staff member has presented any feasible logic as to why luring should be allowed and in-game item scamming should not.

It's all incredibly flawed thinking smeared with feces.

Simply say what it is. You want luring to be legal because you want to be able to lure.

Basically any luring in-game will be treated as a gameplay manipulation in Runescape and no punishment will be given out for it. Sythe is a cheating site and always has been.

However, if anyone has been caught scamming in-game and is found to be related to Sythe (I.E has an active account) will be dealt with, on a case by case basis. In-game scamming is the equivalent of scamming on Sythe, example - not paying the seller for the item you purchased. It will not be taken lightly. Punishments will be issued for it.

Luring is part of game manipulation - Sythe is a cheating site.
Scamming is much more serious - If any member is found to be doing so in-game they are likely to be linked to Sythe in some way or form, because most trades happen through Sythe. Thus, linking in-game scamming directly to trading on Sythe, which is against the rules and will not be tolerated.

I hope that's answered your question.

He didn't ask a question. By definition luring is a form of scamming. It is extremely hard to argue that it is not. Scamming items in Runescape is really not very important anyways since there will be so few cases about it. There is no reason to even have it in the rules. Banning people for that is stupid but if the staff really wants to the unconscionable acts clause could be used.

so, scamming stupid people on runescape for self gain means you'll scam people on a cheating website? so i'd get banned if i scammed someone ingame even if it wasn't related at all to sythe?

lack of logic

He should have put a question mark at the end of his sentence...

Anyways, the chance of anyone being caught scamming in-game by another Sythe member is highly unlikely. However, if my chance that they are it's going to be connected to Sythe.org in some way, shape or form. Most would probably be dealt by a case by case basis.

About luring, I was in the same boat as you for a long time. It shows intent for scamming but after a very long discussion with several staff members, I am under the impression that it is part of game-play and has been around on Sythe for a long time. It was initially for cheating and clans of sorts would be set up for it on Sythe and on Runescape.

The majority of staff would not like to see it as being a bannable offence as it's simply manipulation of game-play of sorts.

In game item scamming is just as much "in-game manipulation" as luring is. They are both simply forms of social engineering.

I'm not necessarily for luring being allowed or not allowed. I would just like to see something uniform as far as the policy is concerned.

edit:
You say scamming is much more serious? Why is it? You should provide reason to your claim.

Both of these events leave the person deceived and cheated out of their items.

What about changing a rule in the duel arena ?

Something uniform will be released, but for a pre-(press release) luring will be allowed. Hopefully with the implementation of the wilderness and RWT, the new ruling will be released.

Scamming is much more serious, if they are caught by another Sythe member it's likely that they are involved in a trade on Sythe, in some way, shape or form. It should be reported and it will be dealt with by a case by case basis.

I agree both lead the person deceived but one involves cheeky game play, (combat skills are used in most cases of luring) while the other involves straight out hustling the person without doing your part of the deal. There's a slight difference there.

I'm not aware of the rule in the duel arena :/

Please elaborate.

Hamjam I was talking about in-game scamming only as in having nothing to do with another sythe member. It's pretty much the same concept as luring.

Runescape "Item Scamming" is very ineffective. Such as changing the amount of gold you put up from K to a 4 at the end. These kind of scams:

a) Only work on noobs
b) Only work for small trades

There are much more advanced ways to scam in free trade. Rule switching is popular in duels, glitching, and luring.

One thing to note: One of the sites most trusted users "Ughster" used duel glitches to essentially scam players in-game for their items. He was never punished; he was actually rewarded for his ability to find bugs and extract wealth from people with them. So on that precedent, I believe in-game scamming (so long as it is not directed at our users) should not be punishable, but rather frowned upon and not discussion-worthy.

Thanks this is the answer I was looking for.

I don't know how people are supposed to find you scamming in Runescape if it isn't related to Sythe in any way, shape or form. Not sure what you're getting at, but if evidence is found that a person does scam in game, you should report it and it will be dealt by with on a case by case basis.

I see people admitting to item scamming on runescape in the past all the time.

Due to free trade coming back I feel this will happen alot. I don't see why/how someone would admit to free armour trimming scamming on Runescape in Sythe though....

I mean think about it, it makes no sense. Most people arn't retarded enough to fall for that anymore.

Depending on the situation, it could have gone from absolutely nothing being done or given or TWC, maybe even being banned. All cases are different and we cannot judge them as a whole.

Same as the above stuff I mentioned about scamming, basically report and it will be dealt with, it will be a case by case basis.

I find it interesting that the terms 'scamming' and 'luring' are kept seperate.
Scamming means to swindle (someone) by means of a trick. Luring is not seperate to scamming, it is a subsection which falls under the scamming banner along with hacking and item scamming. To say otherwise is a fallacy in all hounesty.
