AVS picks it up because it connects to the Internet via TCP (like most keyloggers). Like previously stated, the RS admins already explained this.

I use AVG Free, and have for awhile. It's always worked for me.

Andrew addressed this on the forums, it's a false alarm.

    runescape.exe - Virus?

    THATS EXACTLY WHAT I GOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NVM.. i read a post that runescpae said

A popular antivirus program called AVG was updated yesterday with new virus definitions.

Unfortunately these definitions are giving a false alarm about our downloadable RuneScape client.

I would like to assure you that after running multiple tests I'm extremely confident that runescape.exe, as downloaded from this website, does NOT contain a virus.

In fact the file hasn't even changed since 2006! I've just double checked and it's the exact same file it has been for years! (it has the same md5 checksum).

The false alarm only comes up for the downloadable windows client (from our extra downloads section), so if you are still worried about it you can just play from our website using your web browser instead. We hope AVG will fix this false alarm in their next definitions update.

If you have any further questions, we therefore suggest you contact AVG directly.
