    Runescape Economy 1999-2010

A question many Runescape players have pondered for some time. Is the Runescape Economy dying? The answer is, yes it is! If you were somehow too ignorant to notice this, then you just haven't been playing Runescape lately.

Let's go back in time, to the early days of RuneScape.

Those were the GOOD days, as many Players claim. Back then, having full Addy was considered the best thing. As for Rune, if you managed to somehow get your hands on them, then you were the luckiest person alive.

For many months Runescape lived on, completely shielded from the clutches of high level armour/weapons such as Rune. Then it happened. Bluerose(you all know who she is) set a World Record on RuneScape by being the first player to reach Lv99 Smithing. Thus, she became the first Rune Smither in Runescape. She knew that Rune items were in great demand, and she used this to her advantage. She became the richest player in Runescape in a very short time. People were willing to pay anything, ANYTHING, to obtain items such as Rune 2-Handlers.

These were the "good" days, when Rune was held in high respect, and the economy in Runescape was well kept in check. However, eventually more and more players began to achieve what bluerose had done, and Rune Smithers became more frequent. Eventually, demands for Rune steadily became low, and the price of a Rune 2-handler literally dropped from over 1 million to perhaps 300k.

So the ages went by, and here we are, in the modern period. The high respect everyone had for Rune is now all but spent, and those with Full Rune who were once worshipped as Gods are now nothing but "normal" people. Rune has become an "easy-come-easy-go" item now, and any player who can make decent money can afford Rune to some degree. Many rare items such as Party Hats, which were once sold/bought very easily, became less and less frequent. The prices blasted through the roof, and Rune was shunted aside.

What is the future of the Runescape Economy? Will it eventually collapse and will even the poorest of players be able to afford Rune? Will the prized Rune Smithers in Runescape lose their worthy status? Only time will tell.

Well rune died off because more people came into the game as well as new armor which is now better.

I think this is more an analysis of rune armour rather than the economy. And if rune is becoming more and more common, then the obvious answer to your question is yes, even the poorest will be able to afford rune in the future.

The runescape economy didnt die because somone got 99 smithing. It didnt die because 100's of people got 99 smithing. It died because jagex are money-hungry faggots who put shit stuff into their game.

How the hell can you analyse the whole RS economy solely on rune armour alone? The price of rune armour dropping over the years does not give an accurate picture of how the economy is going whatsoever.

Rune armor drops because it's become easily craftable with Rune Ore prices, an increase in Rune ore miners, assistance, and over the years people have naturally gotten higher and higher Smithing.

Exactly. And didn't runescape come out in 2001? Not 1999.

It was first released as a public beta on January 4th, 2001. It was released in 1999, if you want to get technical, but the whole game consisted of like one building, and a sheep. Not to mention it was only available for a week.. so you might as well just say it was officially available in 2001.

    @Imback97

You're making a HORRIBLE analogy. For the game to continue to exist (people not getting bored etc) Jagex has to release new items every so often. Most people expect these new items to somehow have an advantage over the old items.. Every item will devalue with time. That's how these things work, so I'm really failing to see what you're getting at here. Rune and other items have nothing to do with the economy failing, it has a lot more to do with Jagex pumping tons and tons of GP into the game, and the unbalanced pvp drop system. A guy loses 500k and you get 5M? Whoever came up with that one deserves to lose their job, tbh. That and the economy has steadily gone south since anti-RWT updates.. bots were pretty much powering the entire economy, and it made almost everything profitable to train. Now that you can't transfer and shit people don't bot nearly as much as before, so less and less resources are coming into the game driving prices up as well.

    It's all stupidity by Jagex.

Tbh, the Runescape economy is pretty out of wack at the moment, but it may get better.
It's partially because of mechanting clans, but they're also the reason it's staying somewhat balanced.

First off the runescape economy is powerd by people who supply the resource and people who refine it.
Secondly since there are less people supplying thins people need to level things like herblore and such the economy takes a punch. Note example how soom fishes cost more raw WTF?
Third, because jagex removed the wildy and stopped trading more people lose less items.People are able to as I might say collect all the items on the game lol.
Fourth, runescape economy sucks because there are no skills other than WC,fishing, runescrafting, mining and hunter that makes cash.
Most skills take millions to get up.
There needs to be more ways to spend your money without another player recieving it.

This is like an amazing Apocalyptic narrative on the future of RS...
However, the analogy has nothing to with the economy.

The smithers helped mess up the games economy, along with all the botters supplying basic resources, 76king, and all of jagexes updates.

The Runescape economy will never die. There is a concept called the business cycle - the up's and down's of a business. This can be applied to any game with person-to-person trading.
