High-Tier Donors/Users Being Targeted Without 2FA

-Busta305(hacked, scammed $500+)
-King Tijn(Hacked, Scammed $250-$500+)
-Noob1337(hacked, scammed $250+)
-King Neuro(hacked)
-Karlrais(hacked)

Update(3/9/15):
-ChloeCat(hacked,scammed $130+)
-Allanrs(hacked, scammed over $800)


I know theres been 3-5 more, I just cant think of them atm.



Something I've noticed while being banned the past month is this pattern thats been happening, While hackings do happen and of course are expected to be more common on sythe as its a blackmarket, I still find that the similaritys of the hackings in such a brief span indicate one person doing it.


Some Trends I've noticed:

-All Users Dont have 2FA

-All Users Skypes have been hacked

(This is my main theory):

-Every User has ONLY scammed 07/eoc gold from what I can tell, Several of these users have threads and markets in the other areas of the market yet only RS gold is being targeted?

-Every User is of a high reputation with a strong core following and they all have money.

-No user has claimed that ANYTHING has been stolen/taken from them besides their hacked skypes/What the hacker managed to scam, nothing of a personal nature was stolen... No paypal,skrill,bitcoin,LoL, WoW, Nothing that I have seen.



Am I the only one thinking that all of these hackings share a very eerie resemblance to one another?


I know we cant track or do anything to my knowledge, but you have to admit some of these similarity are VERY close.


I'm starting to think 2fa should be required by anyone of $100+ donor status tbh, this seems to ONLY mainly be happening to high tier donors without 2fa.


Does anyone else have any holes to poke in my theory or opinions to share on requiring $100+ donors to have 2fa?


P.S- I could just be paranoid I guess, but I just cant get my head around with all their reputation and whatnot ONLY RS GOLD is being taken? and ONLY THEIR SKYPES/ACCOUNTS? AND ONLY USERS WITHOUT 2FA?

The main point is though: Should $100+ donors be required to use 2fa on their sythe accounts, and What do you think about these hackings? I think because their happening every lets say 3-5 days people are not noticing the trend.

Theres a vast difference between a free market and a security risk.


Even in free markets someone somewhere has to assess and gauge the advantages/disadvantages of possible security risks, I would deem 10+ high tier donors scamming I dont even know, $5000? $10,000? In a month to be a "high risk situation".


Im actually normally all in favor of free market as you all know, but In this case I think there is a specific user or group targeting high tier donors.

The similarity is just so close >.< I cant beleive only RS gold is being taken and nothing else.


P.S- The main purpose was actually to bring attention to the similar hacking's, I tacked on the 2fa thing so I could actually keep this in market discussion, just saying,My own idea im not a huge fan of but I wouldnt mind it at the same time if $100+ donors needed to activate 2fa.

 

No. The simple fact that they don't want to be screwed for hundreds of dollars should be enough incentive to add 2FA. Also, do we know how they got hacked? Phising? Or something else?

 

From what I can tell none of the users have been aware how they have been hacked from my understanding.


I REALLY dug into this tbh, I went back as far as I could looking for something that could indicate any hint to a RAT or something else and could not find anything.


This personally does not effect me, I feel my account is secure and could not care less about the 2fa just tacked it on to keep in market discussion.


What I do think is relevant is that no sythe users outside of staff seem to be noticing the trends/connecting the dots between these hackings.

Once again: I could just be paranoid, just seeing if anyone can dig deeper then me into it.


And btw: Take a look at those names, clearly being screwd for $100's of dollars does not help lol.

 

Well, the rsgp thing is probably just because its the biggest market and is easy to find buyers/sellers. Not sure if they got sythe and skype hacked did they? Maybe they used same pword? It should be pretty difficult cuz you auto-login alot the time

 

If you were in a position where you are capable of hacking Sythe users, wouldn't you also pick people with high donor status/good reputations/no 2fa?

The fact they all have those criteria isn't the surprising part. The surprising part is that people so big in the market never bothered to use 2fa...

 

The users have to pay the scams back in order to be unbanned. If they choose not to have extra security on their account, it makes it much easier for them to be hacked. They shouldn't be forced to have extra security as a punishment for donating, but everyone is advised to choose to have extra security regardless of donation status. The users who were scammed by them also were not forced to trade with them, and they could have chosen to use a middleman.

 

Pie wasn't hacked. You can also add Karlrais to the list.

 

Pretty sure Neuro's hacking was because someone was going through ViTrade DB and found his info, not that he was targeted by people looking for high-level traders without 2FA (not saying not having 2FA wasn't a contributing factor to him being hacked).

Also, when was Pie Overlord hacked? I'm pretty sure he's just a scammer.

Also this isn't as uncommon as you think, we tend to forget about them pretty quickly but hackings are, sadly, quite common, especially on sythe. A lot of them people don't think about due to the fact that the party being hacked noticed as it was happening/early enough and requested a ban before any damage was done as well.

Also 3 or more of Bogla's workers were allegedly at risk of being hacked last night, so idk.

I wasn't even literally capable of putting 2fa on my acc untill a couple months ago.

 

There shouldn't be any reason for this. If you can log onto Sythe you can have 2FA, you can use your own computer as 2FA, you don't need a phone

you can use a barcode scanner via online, and email that 2FA to yourself.

Well it makes sense that hackers would aim to scam RS gold, it's by far the biggest market on Sythe and the easiest way to steal a lot before being found out.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same person/group was behind all the recent hackings though

 

Well if they are subjected to being hacked why don't they just do the 2 factor auth. How do you know all those users are just not scamming large amount's "ragequitting" all that and are just saying they are being scammed. The point is we do not know. I read some scam reports against trusted users and they sound pretty legit honestly.

Edit: Personally I think there scamming and saying they are hack using reputation and friends and such to cover the suspicion.
