    Hello, I've come to Sythe for guidance with an account issue and between myself and rogue we've been unable to come up with a solution thus far.

    Less than 1 month ago I purchased an EX-max cape account from rogue, after having the account for around 3-4 weeks the jagex account launcher that the account was on has got disabled. Rogue doesn't believe that this issue comes under our TOS - (Which will be uploaded below) The account still remains on the highscores and rogue has reached out to the OG owner in regards to recovery but thus far has been unsuccessful in recovering.
    I believe this issue comes under the 1 month warranty that a seller needs to maintain for account recoveries.

    Thanks Aarond for raising a report. Acknowledging this report and I don't think there is any foul play on all the stakeholders involved here. Still working w/ OO to see if Jagex will give them back the account. In the meantime... I'll drop my notes below for ref.

    One point for reference: Prior to the sale and payment, it was stated that I am not OO.

    As per the Terms & Conditions that apply to all accounts I sell, I provide coverage against recovery and locks for an agreed warranty period—in this case, 1 month.

    There is currently no evidence of a recovery having taken place:
    • Aarond has confirmed he received no email from Jagex regarding any character being moved off the Launcher-linked account.
    • The character has shown no name changes or XP gains since the reported issue.
    • The OO’s recovery request was acknowledged by Jagex but received no resolution. Jagex generally does not return Jagex Launcher (JL) accounts unless they were originally hijacked as Legacy accounts and later upgraded to JL.
    There is also no evidence of a lock:
    • Jagex’s notice states the account was disabled, not locked.
    • A typical recovery scenario usually includes both a disabled account notice and an email about the character being moved—which is absent here.

    This current issue appears to be on Jagex's side from Dec blog posts, with no recovery occurring—which falls outside the agreed terms. Processing the refund claim without evidence of recovery would set a precedent that could undermine my own ToS for any arbitrary Jagex change over time.

    P.S. A similar situation happened some time ago where I refunded and remediated the issue with OO myself as there was a clear audit trial. Proof in my vouch thread which was resolved by Yoshiki.

    @Aarond has provided proof of the account being disabled that I have left in a deleted post above for staff as it contains sensitive information.

    @Rogue Services@Aarond contacted you via Sythe PM within the 30-day warranty period and since the account is not banned, you are required to assist with account recovery. As Jagex has already denied the recovery attempt submitted by the original owner, you will be unable to recover the account. Therefore, you will need to issue @Aarond a refund.


    There is also already a precedent for this situation as you can see from the reports below.


    @Rogue Services @Aarond please confirm here when the refund has been sent/received.

    I understand the reasoning, but approving this would not align with the agreed Terms of Service and would set an unwanted precedent.

    My position is solely to uphold the original terms, not out of bad faith. Given accounts are Jagex property, my ToS provides warranty against recovery and locks which isn’t the same as a recovery guarantee.

    That said, as a goodwill gesture, I’m extending the recovery/warranty period from 1 month to 3 months: if Aarond receives any notice (e.g., email) that the account has been removed from his launcher or shows unexpected XP gains before 15 March 2026, the claim will be honoured.

    I am aware of Sythe’s processes & next steps therefore I’d like to note that all existing contracts / ToS across all platforms I operate in will continue to be honoured.

    @Rogue Services the account is still listed on the hiscores which confirms it was not banned.

    @Aarond has provided proof that the account is disabled, and you also sent him a screenshot showing the original owner’s response from Jagex stating that they will not unlock the account. Since the account cannot be recovered, you are required to issue a refund.

    A DNT has been applied as there is active debt here that needs to be addressed.

    Him extending a new TOS and trying to make out that its out of goodwill is laughable and makes 0 sense when I have no access to the account. Perhaps liquidity issues who actually knows.
    @Zulu This can be closed. Rogue services wont refund nor has he been able to return the account and is away for the next 5 days so keeping this open is pointless.

    To clarify the ruling here;

    The account was not “banned” in the traditional sense that would allow a user to login to the account page and determine a ban reason. I am aware that Jagex appears to be permanently disabling accounts in place of bans.

    However, there is no way for staff to determine what triggered the account being disabled. The email from Jagex confirmed that the account was hijacked and someone was able to change the account's email or add an authenticator, deeming the account unable to be recovered per Jagex's rules on Jagex account recoveries.

    We can speculate that the account was disabled due to a delay in the account sale between the two users in this report, or due to someone attempting to hijack the account with the correct recovery details after the sale - but there is no way to know for sure.

    As the account is permanently disabled, @Rogue Services would not be able to fulfill the obligation of recovering the account within the 30 day period that was agreed to in the ToS.

    The ruling for this report left above is in line with our previous rulings regarding these situations, and since @Rogue Services has stated he will not be providing a refund - he has been issued a 3 month ban for scamming and the DNT will remain.


    Jagex account disables are fairly new and there is still a lot of unknown factors surrounding them, so these reports will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for now.
