You know i heard if you take your own life your going to hell has anyone else heard that

I didn't know him and rest in peace.

But to be truthful, suicide is the easiest way out of a problem.

I'm not saying that he didn't have reason or it didn't seem like the only way out for him. But killing yourself to me is just not an acceptable way of death for me.

Once again no offense to him and his family has my condolences, just sad it had to be this way

I'm glad to see you temp banned, but I was really taken back by what ignorance you showed, and felt replying through my good friend T4ank was the right thing to do. Life isn't about courage, nor is living life courageous. You have no choice but to live your life, you're a slave to your own existence. Breaking free of the bonds of your own being is very courageous, as it shows true determinism in ones fate. Shawn, if I knew him in the least, was not an idiot, nor a coward.

I believe, one day, you will come to understand that what you said was incredibly misguided. He actually did the courageous, intelligent thing, and took his existence under control. Respect him.

So what? I find that acceptability, and though I respect you for saying 'for me', to be ridiculous. We live in a world where at any time you could die. What fun is that? You have no control over your life, so you'd also enjoy not having any control over your death? Sure, you determine mediocre things, but unless you kill yourself, there's no telling when it might happen.

Truth be told, I'd rather die by my own hand, than by some freak accident and make someone else live through hell because they killed me. Or to give the pleasure to someone who enjoys killing others. Or even to die of old age, without ever having controlled my existence.

I respect Shawn for his decision. Hell, I think his decision was the right one. I'm bummed to see him go, and I'll miss his disliking of my 'annoyances', but at least he got out, and he did it of his own will. I believe you guys should stop treating him like he was an idiot, and respect his wishes.

I have been frantically searching and asking around for a little while now to confirm whether this is actually true. As of late my stomach has been sinking and I'm starting to believe that he's actually done it. I can't believe this.

Like many of you I'm sure I felt really close to Shawn, we would chat usually daily through query in the IRC and he was always excited to tell me about his new smoking pieces and new types of weed he'd got. We used to smoke on stickam and tinychat and we even toked together with my RL friends and him at times. I was at schoolies (Australia's end of exam holidaying celebrations) when this happened and only found out when I got back and this is really tearing me up inside. I keep looking over my chat logs with him, where he sounded so merry and happy most of the time, though I did notice a drop in his cheeriness in the later dates, yet I assumed this was just edrama or small problems.

While I trust and respect Giv and believe that she wouldn't lie about something this serious, I just have to say that Shawn, if you are out there, and if this is just a way to maybe get away from it all and have a change of life, I respect that and will not attempt to impart my own thinking on your actions, but if, for some amazing and hopeful reason you still are alive, please just drop me an email, saying anything, to [email protected]. I will not bother or even contact you further, but if you are, please do tell me, it would take a load off.

If not, and this is the real deal, then I will not say goodbye or rest in peace, as I cannot go against my own beliefs that death is the end. I just wish, like many have said, I could have been around previous to this just to say anything, if not to persuade him (which I doubt I could have done as even professional help did not seem to work) just to say goodbye to who I've always thought was a wholesome and nice guy.

EDIT: After doing a bit more reading I have accepted the inevitable. I should not have doubted Giv but I guess it was temporary denial.

If anything this had made me think much more seriously about suicide and its implications. While I respect Shawn's apparent decision to end his life and feel I cannot be critical of his choice as I have no idea of his own emotions and feelings which brought him to this act, I realise now moreso of the effect of suicide on those around ourselves. I only knew Shawn over the net, and while I had certainly formed some sort of friendship and bond with him, how this must feel to his family and friends can only be infinitely worse than how I do.

One of my first thought after hearing this news was its effect on you. Knowing that you and Shawn had a bit of a rough patch, as you said, I can only imagine how bad it would make me feel if before his departure I was not on the best terms with him. Though you really should not feel too down and regretful, Finn, as we have all had our internet quarrels and whatnot and surely Shawns underlying depression and emotions go much further than petty internet actions. Like me you do not believe in life after death (I think right?) and now that Shawn is gone and his consciousness lost, it will do no good to dwell on the depressing and dismal situation, as this will only provoke worse thoughts in ourselves, something I'm sure Shawn would not have wanted.

Instead lets focus on the good times we spent with him, discussing and debating things in the IRC, hanging on the stickam and posting on the forums with him. Hopefully we were the ones who helped extend his troublesome existence with friendship and good times. And if we were not, I don't care, because this is how I will remember him.

 

The IRC has been pretty nice, for a while. I'm glad people have been coming in here, and making it fun. Shawn would have had a blast.

I figured I'd go ahead and post my cheers here to him, though t4ank already posted what I wrote earlier.
