Alright, so the Sythe Gaming League proved way too ambitious. I think the biggest problem was not only the entire scope of the tournament (it was too big and drawn out), but the time of year is just not a good time to be hosting such a big event.

So I am here to take ideas on what you guys think should be done instead. Should we have smaller competitions with smaller rewards? Should we have one giant competition (if so, what?)

What do you guys think we should do, open to all suggestions. I tried implementing a time-limit on a round by round basis, but it proved to be negligible in terms of producing results --- it literally would have gotten to the point where a winner would have been randomly selected (yes the inactivity was that prevalent!)

Anyway - Post your ideas here. Competitions. Games. Etc. I also apologize to everyone that Tankball was an absolute crap game. It turned out to be totally incompatible with Mac computers and the scoring system was also quite nonsensical.

>split into multiple smaller competitions - 200m per?
>strict 7 day per turn
>eliminated if not played no excuses - if one person putting in effort but the other isn't then the first person advances. If both/neither putting in effort but still can't play then eliminate both.
>pool, chess, etc all popular

This is pretty much my opinion as well. Maybe the old tournament format could work if the games were popular like the ones listed above, still a long shot for a several month tournament.

I don't see why you'd want the competition to go for months. Peoples circumstances can change a lot in that time.

I agree with Travis, your timeframe is just to dang long.

People have work/college/computers break/vacation etc.

Do something that lasts a week or 2 at max... months at a time is just stupid.

I had to drop out after being active in the 1st round purely because your timeframe was so long I had to leave for 10 days to go on vacation with my family.

Also, after months of waiting its extremely boring and when you start breaking down the numbers you end up making like $10/week(mabey 20-25 if you get 1st but thats unlikely).

At the end of the day its simple why ur tourny failed:

-To long of a timeframe
-Stupid games that no-one wants to play
-At the end of the day, whats the point of spending months in a tourny to end up making $100-$250 or something after 2-3 months lol.

(and yes thats right, considering u we're divinding the 1b up, it comes out for 1st place making like $15 a week which simply isnt worth it to people lol, you can make more selling lemonade in a week then you would of made off this tourny).

Just my 2 cents/opinion.

Play popular games as Jack mentioned.

I assume that you put into the last tournament a rule where you've got a X amount of time from the date that your match is scheduled to complete. If not, then boot em.

I'd say make it a max 2 week long tournament where it's limited to a certain amount of users. Or just split into multiple tournaments.

The pot size seems kind of large for a 2 week tournament with a limited number of participants, in my opinion. How many people? How do you decide who gets a chance at 1 bil?

I like the smaller pot idea. 200m, 5 tournaments, or something along those lines. The individual tournaments would most likely move much faster than the original, and they would not have to be linked. Participants from the first tournament would not necessarily be the same in the second tournament.

Just my 2 cents/opinion.

This is all constructive in my response, no malice intended, but here's it from my point of view:

Too long of a time-frame is a weak excuse from the lot of you- Why? Less than 5 percent were active even from the start. If it were shorter, none of you would have been left lmao. At the rate it was going, ONE tournament wasn't going to be over for 6 months, because nobody was playing, responding to pms, and 95 percent weren't even communicative once. There were people active that either chose to ignore the thread completely or essentially drop out without even having the courtesy to tell anyone.

Also, how can you say "all the games were stupid" - How can you judge something you've never played or games we didn't even get to? Also first place a good bit more than 150 dollars, but that's beyond the point. The simple fact of the matter is, and the key cog in the tournaments failure - was INACIVITY - NOT LENGTH. If people were actually active, we could have A: Gotten rid of Tankball from the competition, B: Shortened the competition to just one game and C: Made all time frames work - I was not a stickler on the 7 day inactivity rule because literally nobody was playing their games. if the majority would have come out and said yo, this tournament is too long and I think we should just do one that isn't Tankball, I would have definitely obliged.

Also, while the reward/week may seem "small" to you, keep in mind that this was easily the biggest prize pot ever offered in any Sythe tournament, and I had no sponsors, AND this was going to be a seasonal thing. The amount of people that didn't appreciate that (apparently), through not even bothering to ever communicate, was a big reason why I scrapped it versus modified it on the spot, I want to be in control the next time of who plays. I should have taken Hamouze's advice on having a requirement, he was dead on.

Oh yeah - another thing - nobody can complain about the games that were picked. There was a thread that outlined the tournament's idea and asked for game ideas. Most agreed with Yu-Gi-Oh, I heard no negative complaints about Tankball 2 at that time, and Haxball was completely selected by you guys. It's my fault Tankball 2 did not work for everyone - that was an unforeseen and huge problem, I don't have any Mac's and didn't know they didn't work Tankball.

So, all in all, I already conceded the format was too long, and would have quickly made concessions if more people had been active. But view it from my perspective, I put my time, money (had to save up for every type of prize), and months of effort into cultivating something I thought would work. It does not feel good when not only it does not work, but most people not even appreciating it enough to play one 5 minute game. This was NOT you Bus, but a ton others.

The pot attracts users to join. That's why such a high number.

But I wouldn't be opposed to multiple winners for different tourneys.

That was an issue with the original tournament, though. A lot of the "participants" were newcomers who joined specifically because they saw the 1b prize, then went inactive.

A series of smaller tournaments with a strict inactivity rule, and a limited number of participants would probably be much smoother (I hope)

People are still gonna line up to do even if it's 200M Prize.

Maybe make a criteria for it. Such as X amount of posts or join date or something along those lines.

This IMO is the best solution right now. Just keep the games popular and a 7 day limit per person and this can happen.

It was just too big/long/complex so I didn't get involved with it.

Just host a tournament for 1 game type (like pool etc) with an organised structure to it for like 200M prize every now and then.

Competition should be a week or 2 max imo and play a game like chess or something as someone else said

Do 5 lots of 200m competitions with 16 people each time.

Do a game of chess maybe, as it's such a common game that most people have played.

Set it for a week, anyone who doesn't play isn't allowed to play again and is auto eliminated.
Also do it so you must have registered for a month to play, so newcomers can't come and play (time wasters).

smaller and more frequent, which would draw way more traffic and activity. best idea by far
