Require I.D. from Users to use the site?

May decrease a bit of the user base, but anyone can get an ID. Also, If someone wants to use the site bad enough they'd be able to get one.

Too high of a requirement to set for everyone. I can agree with a certain 'trusted' tag like the Sythe Verified User tag that we had some time ago when people submit legit ID.

As I keep saying, having people's personal information is the strongest defence to stop scams. Who would risk their entire future carreer for a scam of a few 100 dollars?

 

definitely nay. pretty sure if you start req id all the newcomer people would just go to powerbot or something instead. its just creepy knowing even if you want to do a one time buy of some gold the website has your adress and shit

 

I think submitting ID's will cause:

1) too much trouble
2) security issues
3) a major decline of users

 

This is worse than voter id laws




Seriously though, implementation, the amount of staff time it would take, fake ID's, barring users that cannot get an ID, and the overall implausible implementation makes this not only hard to implement, but also completely ignores the reality of what this would do to the user base.

I would not say that this would be a great idea.
Banning users regarding not having an ID would decrease the amount of users on this site. Not everyone wants to submit ID however there is one thing that can be done.

Regarding ID's I do think something could be done. With SVU's, the identity of PayPals could not be maintained. If a staff member (most likely an admin) wants to do this, a rank such as Highly Trusted could be provided to those who submit a fair amount of ID. By fair amount, you can't just grab a fake passport and apply, you'd need to show some kind of proof of the address and the ID matching.

If a fair amount of proof was provided to display the ID as genuine then the rank would be handed out. This ID would be handed to the victim if the scammed individual requested it.

So yeah, I support it to an extent.

I disagree, just like what @A Broken Man said it's just like SVU and that didn't do any good. If people practiced good safe trading then in theory we'd be a lot better off. People that get scammed imo are those who are willing to take a risk for the extra buck or to save a dollar. There are the ocasional trusted users that scam, but at the end of the day this is a blackmarket site it's come to be expected sometimes.

I think we should focus on bringing more people to the site instead of constantly focusing on extra anti-scam security. I know it sucks when scammers get people but its more important to look at the numbers.

If everybody had to provide ID then it would be unlikely they'd "want to use the site that bad", as less users would mean less of an incentive to invest in Sythe.org

I think its best to just require ID once a buyer passes a certain limit with any reversible payment options. I've found when starting out $50 is a good monthly limit without ID as most chargeback fraud is done with US and UK bank accounts. I know for a fact many US banks charge $20 or something so its highly unlikely they will chargeback from their personal accounts for low amounts.

In addition to this be stricter on those with unverified paypals. And still have limits if they do provide ID. Fake IDs combined with stolen paypals and credit cards are popular methods such scammers use, so to be honest again there's not much you can do than be careful and set limits. (If you get G2a Pay etc then of course you have an extra layer of protection against fraud)

 

This wont be happening, some of the reasons why are listed above.
