Rule Question: Is saying cheapest gold allowed?

Mass gold shops shouldn't be allowed to false advertise when their prices are sometimes a full 50 cents higher than other salespeople.

It's annoying having to click 7 threads and find out they're all ridiculously priced and definitely not cheapest

It's advertising. It got you to open their thread, exactly what they wanted.

 

yep they just want you on their thread. almost all will do it. and yeah ive noticed they are overpriced, but what can you claim as cheapest gold? it would have to be changed daily

There's also no way to enforce it. Are we meant to trawl through threads/websites and find the cheapest one? Take just as much time for you to do that

 

That's basically the point OP is making. Since it's not enforceable, why allow the traders who do the largest bulk (and charge the highest prices) blast false prices in their thread titles?

 

At the time of the post, they may have had cheapest prices. Prices fluxuate all the time.

This is nearly impossible to enforce.

Consider these gold sellers businesses. They're going to think of strategies to get you to open up their thread. Posting something such as "Cheapest" gold is their form of advertisement. You as a customer see that and open up their thread. Hook, line, and sinker. It's all about marketing and how you present yourself. It's all about capital, they're using their assets to gain prowess. You can't stop them from doing this. Too many variables.

 

We'd have to deal with reports for these titles; are we meant to check prices for every site out there before we remove it?

 

What the staff are saying is: it would take a ridiculously unrealistic amount of time to check if they do in fact have the cheapest gold or not.
There are also many variables to take into account, such as first time buyers getting deals, loyal customers getting deals, bulk buying etc.. Someone could have the cheapest gold in bulk, but someone else could have the cheapest gold if you're a first time buyer, or paying with a different payment method.

Basically... Just click those 7 threads and stop being lazy.

 

Runescape mods exist for a reason, they understand the market. You don't have to search through all the websites to know that a .50/M rate is not the cheapest. There's a reason you have forum specific mods who are supposed to know what they're doing. Tired of this "too much hassle" bullshit from mods and admins, that's your job... I'm not saying that there are things that are clearly unenforcable but this one is very enforcable with a simple rule of no false advertising.

 

Rates can change on a second's notice. What if I just bought 0.1m for $5/m to cover an order (happens all the time) or sold 0.1m for $1 to help a friend cover an order (also happens all the time)? Then can I claim I have the best rates if they apply to a tiny, tiny fraction of my orders? tldr - This is unenforceable, and if you're trying to get the best price, it's in your interest to contact as many people as you can to have them bid against each other so that you actually get the best rate.

Were you (OP) hoping to make: "#1" / "$50 donor" / "700 vouches" reportable as well? What if you have donated $53.50? What if you have 712 vouches? It should just be not allowed to post "cheapest rates" in general as that is lying and false advertisement. The vouches and donor status thing is irrelevant. It's not harming anyone but the seller him/herself since they could look better. Also, most people say stuff like 50+ donor or 700+ vouches. It's not lying since your donor status under your username CLEARLY says "amount donated"+. You're comparing apples to oranges. Telling people you are cheaper than others when you are not is false advertisement. Make it a rule to not be allowed to say that you're cheaper than everyone else, that simple.

 

Some things are just not realistic. Sorry.
