Removal of the Public Relations Team

Was talking to @Artur about this and he said we have to wait for the public beta to start advertising. Correct me if I am wrong though.

 

Will be making a long post addressing how I feel about this either tonight or tomorrow.

This may be silliest thing I've seen throughout this whole thread & I've seen some pretty silly stuff.

 

Sigh, it's just people who want to try to help the site.

If they want a rank, so what? It still encourages site activity.

Advertising a forum is difficult because most advertisements people rely on are advertisements on other forums, which obviously u cant advertise sythe on other forums(most of them) so your basically left with word of mouth, paid advertisements or banners, or google/bing/yahoo ad words which cost $$$ to operate.

I think there are better things that they could do, but considering they do it for free, and their only compensation is a rank, Honestly I see no reason to disband the PR team.

There's like ~150-300 total active actual community users left, If a rank and helping advertise sythe keeps some of them interested in the forum & trying to help it, I see no reason to disband the team, even if they only get 10 people to join, that's 10 more than we would of had.

It costs the site nothing but a pixel rank, and u get 10 free members(example #), so I see no reason to lose those 10 members over claims that the PR team "does nothing".

Calls for disbandment lies within the minimal progress produced by this group. Being complacent with terrible progress is stupid. If there was no emblem to parade, I can assure you the call would have been answered long ago.

 

haha good one. also, no support. There's nothing stopping someone from being a member of both teams if you think you have the skillset. Teams need to have certain responsibilities, they shouldn't be scattered. Don't really support a clusterfuck srry

 

I could agree with a rework but we can't really combine the two teams when we already have 10 members in CDT.

Having PR-skilled people in CDT would be more logical than having two separate teams; it's the same as having GFX-skilled people on our team (ofc they do more than just GFX but the point stands).

Not sure how we could even go about this.

 

I'd be in favor of reforming the PR team, with perhaps a more black and white list of the expectations from the team and how they plan to meet them. I recall similar issues with the CDT not too long ago. Events were planned and coordinated through the same 2-3 people while the rest of the team (myself included) was too busy irl or too lazy to offer the assistance needed. There were other issues, of course, and I'm not saying the issues with the PR team are identical. I am saying that the restructuring of the CDT was clearly needed and has certainly improved their ability to develop the community. Maybe the same solution could be applied here.

 

I don't think anyone has mentioned this but in order for a merge of the teams to work out you'd probably want to have at least one leader on the CDT that focuses on the community and one leader that focuses on getting new members (pretty much what PR does/is supposed to do), this would be the only way I could see something like that working out & I could see it working out.

Personally I wouldn't mind the removal of the PR team if something like this ended up happening, we could assign people to "roles" obviously they could do stuff outside of their roles but the roles they would be assigned to would be what's expected of them at bare minimum, some people could be specialized in events, youtube, twitter, instagram, helping keep the site active, graphics & more just to name a few roles I would have in mind. I do think with one team doing both the roles of the CDT and PR we could get much more done, I would say I guarantee it but that would depend on who the PR dominant leader would be.

Feel free to comment on my idea, will be going more in depth later on.

 

Basically what Mootrucks and Yankiee said. I believe the only reason why PR was created separately from CDT was because of the state CDT was in at the time. Although right now CDT is in a good position. Having CDT and PR join up, which would result in them being CDT members with special roles as mentioned above and other duties if they want it. Definitely something that is possible. I agree with mootrucks' idea about their needing to be a PR specific leader, alongside a CDT leader, but PR leader needs to be reviewed atm.
