Religion Affecting Personality
A lot of people say to me, christians/catholics/and other religious people are generally kinder, than atheists.

Do you believe this? Why or why not? State your reasons

I sort of do believe this, because the religion sort of I guess, "controls" a person, and their tactics. Therefore, they won't have the urge to do bad things, or have a bad personality.

They do seem, on the surface, nicer people, yes.

This is because the majority of their principles lead them to living their life in a 'kind way,' such as the Golden Rule (treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself,) and Situation Ethics (do the most loving thing in any situation,) for example.

Religion Affecting Personality
Yes, I do, because the Catholic Church wants it's follower's to be kind to all.

idk i have alot of aiethiest friends evn tho im a devout southern baptist :p and theyre alot of nice aiethiests out there, so it depends on things like background, free time liesures and things like their environment, if they accept that yea most people are christian since thats the worlds largest religious group, thn they can be open to that and not care

I think both Atheists and believers have an equal potential.

Just from personal experience-
I've met Bitter Christians/Catholics/Muslims/etc., well-mannered Atheists, and vice versa.

I think that Atheists tend to be, as a whole, seen more as an educated group- and so they also tend to be more arrogant and proud of their accomplishment in logic.
The same as religious 'folk' are conditioned to be more loving, caring, understanding, etc.

But it goes both ways.

Yeah I believe it all depends on the way your parents parented you, life experiences, and the people you hang around. But I do believe in general on the outside it might seem that atheists are "less kind" then a person with religion. The reason for this is I think that a person with religion might be more reserved at first. But like Wendy said I have seen vice versa.

let me ask you this!

do i seem like a f'ing ass hole to you!?!?

jk. jk.

yes, i will tell you right now, christians seem to be A LOT nicer than athiest. athiests such as me seem to be more arrogant and boastful. i think this is because many religions teach their followers to be kind and loving to all, and i will tell you right now that is most definately not the case with me.

I know a couple of aethists and their really nice people. And there are other people like my best friends family, who are super-religous. There good people as well.
I think it depends on the type of person not if they have a religion.

Well. Yeah, it sort of does affect the person inside.

Religion teaches the ways towards young people, and as they grow up, they don't usually grow up as bad (can't think of anything else). Religious people, generally learn from their religious traditions. For examples, christians try to resist sinning, but we all know that we sin anyways, it's natural. I guess you can say, religion pushes you to become more obedient, and that can create a kinder self.

yeah, i went with 4 kids to go rv hopping on friday and the 2 christians wouldnt go because their parents would be "devastated if they were to be caught". i think the rules that they follow seem to be set to a bit higher standard than other people.

Yeah. I guess, you can consider that, it doesn't make them as much open, and if they get treated like that, and learn those ways, it doesn't exactly go with the world, and it could get them negative attention. That's not fun. Still, I think they are generally nicer. But, they could still be one of those gay-ass pussy tattle-taling nerds that you hate at school.

For both of them I think they have equal potential. I'm Muslim myself:)

On the surface, maybe. If you adhere to the teachings of Jesus, then yes, you will have a great personality. But if you get too religious you tend to become stagnant, resulting in a hypocritical dick. You also have to consider the motives: are religious people being kind because its the right thing to do, or for fear of being smited? I think that instead of teaching children to be religious so that they turn out to be "good" people, we should teach them to do good for the sake of doing good. Instead of teaching my kids to adhere to religious teaching, I'm going to teach them not to be hypocrites, but instead, to live up to their word, and to show benevolence to others simply because it is the right thing to do.

Hmm.. look at that- A Christan agrees with the words of an Atheist. Only on Sythe. ;)

Well religion has a massive impact on people, no matter what religion they are. Mostly those who are extremists are the harsh ones. Also, another major role is friendship between you, and sometimes that over-rules faith in some cases.

Agreed except about the part the most religious folk being understanding, many religious groups outcast people.

And most religions tell the followers to follow the laws of the land and use your morals you learn, which athiest also learn. Morals don't come the bible.

They are nicer because they think their deeds govern their afterlife, that's about it.
