Refund Scammed Users With Any Scammed Money

Basically, title.

Example: Peter has been scammed for $50.
Person that has scammed 25m 07 tries buying skilling service from Mark person.
Even though the scam is completely unrelated, Mark takes the money and refunds Peter.

During a pardon, the person would still have to pay $50 because the 25m 07 that was taken from them wasn't given, it was taken to be repaid.

 

Counter-scamming is already a thing.

You have to get a staff members permission to counter-scam, to repay the victim.

 

What I don't quite understand is the permission needed to do it. There should be new rules about it as you most likely will miss the trade whilst getting a permission from staff. If you're 200% sure about it, you should be allowed to do it for the victims sake.

 

Without staff permission, (as we can check things normal users can't) you may be scamming an innocent person who has already paid their scam victim back, or is innocent. There is also the excuse people will use for trying to scam, "I swear I was going to give this GP to their scam victim."

There are too many complications in my eyes for users to be counter-scamming without permission. We have a discord with very active staff members, you shouldn't ever have trouble getting in contact with one as soon as the trade goes down to get the okay for a counter-scam.

 

Well last time I did that, I tried to get a permission for 10mins but decided to go ahead without one because I would have missed the trade. I understand your point, but if he had paid back to his victims, it would be just classified as misunderstanding and he would refund it back to the one he counter scammed from. And obviously if you can't get in contact with victims, there should be a rule f.e that you would have to donate the whole amount you counter scammed to sythe.

 

That is part of Chloe's point; so many people would scam and then if they get caught they'd consider it a misunderstanding. It is a great idea in theory but without definite evidence and guarantee; you cannot just go ahead and scam a user in hopes that they haven't paid back their victims of the scam (if any). People are wrongfully banned just for a short period of time until everything is sought through and can be seen from different eyes just for security reasons.. What if this were to happen with a member and you were to scam them thinking they had scammed somebody?

 

I agree with Chloe, if no mod is around to approve a counter scam it's very unfortunate though.

The scenario you're describing isn't actually counter-scamming.

Counter scamming is recovering your stolen property from someone else. Here, although you are recovering stolen property, the stolen property is not yours; you are recovering stolen property on behalf of someone else.

You don't need a staff's permission to counter-scam and the circumstance you are describing, to repeat, is not counter-scamming. If you want to counter-scam as someones agent, you'll need explicit authorization, either from the person who was initially scammed, or a staff member.

Be careful when distinguishing the two.
