Very informative, I didn't know you could get key logged from downloading a youtube video.

Disable sending/controling/etc on teamview. Using teamview isn't a 'scam',
even if they have access to control your comp, you can control it while their controlling it aswell.

 

You're misunderstanding the meaning of it. The team viewer scam refers to the scammer trying to infect you will team viewer, not the program itself.

 

I dont think by actually downloading youtube videos but by doing the instructions on youtube videos like entering a link they advertise in it or leaving a link in the infobox etc? Thats what I am guessing since I download videos from youtube all the time.

 

Yeah, it is meant to be the download link but you can still bind viruses to almost any format of a file. I was once able to bind a .exe to a .txt file (Haven't tried in a while).

thanks! that was very helpful, my friend got scammed by photobucket link which was a keylogged link. i don't know how hackers do these things..

 

Probably was a Java Driveby hidden under a photobucket link.

You should add a bit on social engineering, and the oh-so-useful url display at the bottom of your browser. You should trust that more than the url at the top of the page, as DNS requests could be spoofed. Also an easy edit to hosts.ini also proves productive in scamming. So make posively sure you ARE on the actual rs website every time you connect.

Jagex offers no secure connections/anti-phish so it is ultimately left in your own hands to stay safe.

 

Social engineering to most people is undetectable. The URL display is pretty self explanitory.

 

No... but educating people on popular methods might bring end to some scams.

mitm attacks work well also.

Had quite a few things I was not aware of, (java driveby mostly)
Plus, if you get scammed through TeamViewer by granting access to someone you barely know, you HAVE to be really dumb.
