Ranks Change

So on my last thread I suggested that we update our current ranks, sending the old to the legacy vault like the even older. Now I am suggesting we move away from the RS themed ranks and dive into something new, something that doesn't revolve around RS. The slogan of Sythe is "The Craigslist of virtual goods", so why do we have purely based RS ranks?

Ever wonder why Fun Ranks are so sought after and look stunning? Change. They aren't purely based on one single game. Just imagine the possibilities for new ranks, not just donor ranks, but the ranks as a whole.

The time for these RS based ranks needs to end.

does this mean you are wanting to change ranks of administrators/sectionals and globals, as well?

I think he means donor ranks only. and if no support then explain why you won't support this.

 

I support this if we would like the site to be based off of all games then we should have more fun ranks and donor icons based for other games as well.

The main section for sythe was always runescape, sythe had it's own RS bots. Want a different donor rank? Donate $300, stop bitching.

 

"Sythe has always had" or "Sythe always was" isn't a reason to deny this suggestion. To attract more people to this forum, this forum will need to be not mainly RS based. Changing donor ranks images to something more general will help Sythe to change.

 

Yeah, but what is STILL the main section of sythe.org's market. RS, by a long way. For now the ranks are good as they are, as it's what the majority of people on the site are here for.

 

I think this a good idea, but I want to see the ranks before I give my full support.

 

If this gets approved why doesn't Sythe hold a rank competition and people make up ranks for each donation amount and then we all vote on them.

 

"was", "had", all past tense. Sythe is different now and I feel like some of you don't grasp that. Holding on to things like this wont allow the forum to change, it will only bring it down with you. This thread isn't about me wanting a different donor rank, and I wish people wouldn't look at it that way. I'm sorry if you feel threatened by change, most likely because you have a $300 donor rank.

With all of these new replies I've come up with another plan, which would probably mend most peoples feelings on the topic.

There would be a donor rank in which the user could choose the rank that best fits what he does on Sythe, or what they are interested on Sythe. An example would be:

Timmy likes League of Legends.
Timmy donates.
Timmy has access to the ranks ladder.
Timmy really loves League of Legends.
Timmy picks the default rank that is associated with League of Legends.


Billy likes Runescape.
Billy donates... etc


Joe loves posting and being a part of the community.
Joe picks the default rank that is associated with the community.


*Note these are just examples, the actual ranks could be voted on through a user submitted competition.

Instead of having a whole bunch of ranks ranging from $5-$300, we could have just one rank, that applies to all. If you donated more than $5, then you would have a mini rank stating the dollar amount you donated. (Omg mini ranks are actually useful now?!?!). Donating $300 or more would still allow you to have your own custom images.

 

You can't just tell people to donate 300$ or 295$ more (Since he's 5$ Donator), just to have the ability to change 'ranks'.
You know,they don't have to donate,they just did it to help the site.

Runescape is dying. That's easy enough to see. Other games are picking up, and really.. Ranks shouldn't even be based on one game.

@IDB: $300+ is still runescape related.

 

Ok sure, let me elaborate. Donor ranks; if you want to change them, then by all means, I could care less BUT, as stated earlier, I would have to see the ranks prior to giving my full support. Ok so, as IDB has pointed out, runescape is the backbone of the website, and a custom rank is a perk to those that are a $300 donor, if they get changed and you are to pick what rank you want, then I'd personally like to retract the extra $100 I donated, as there was no real cause to donate more, this would cause issues. And in saying that, what game would you base them off? a less popular game within the community in which majority of people would disagree to have a LoL rank? (Purely an example). Changing something that does the job, is only going to cause more issues.

With the current ranks in place for each level of donation; there are no problems. You go messing about with it, it will cause problems. Cool, we understand that you guys mightn't like RS, but guess what? I could guarantee that majority, if not everyone, that is involved with this community was bought here because of RuneScape, plain and simple; and again, more people are joining, for that same reason.

In regards to the staff ranks, admin being yellow phat (fundle) global being santa and so fourth, I would not agree to a change. These ranks are a staple to the Sythe community, it enables for us as the community to easily determine who's who; yes I understand that with other ranks, it's possible. They look great, they do the job, the ranks show the section in which they are moderating, market being 2x santas with an obby shield (Shows a sense of the Runescape market) etc, etc - and they're a staple.

Before you asked me to elaborate, maybe you should have done so, aswell? Please, proceed to elaborate on why you would support this notion, how would the forums benefit from sudden change? What good would it do to the community? Don't you think it'll cause disputes between users?

And also, don't you think they're a bigger and better things to fix within the forums before we go about messing with minor shit? Such as a revamp of the other games section and off-topic? I personally believe, this will only cause more problems and potentially lead to more people leaving the community.

There's no other way to put it. If Sythe were created originally for Runescape, it was due to Runescape's popularity and a need for a real-life market.

There is still a need for a Runescape market to be sure, but having the site based on Runescape specifically doesn't really make sense anymore.

As far as I can see, there are two general arguments against:
1) nostalgia
2) "that's how it's always been"

Neither of these really have base in logic.

Logically, a site that has markets for multiple games will have ranks that reflect that. I understand that due to RS's popularity in the past, having RS-based ranks made more sense. But how things are currently (Sythe containing markets for multiple games), it no longer seems appropriate.

It's a lot of work to create new ranks; making it competition based with a minirank reward would allow for input from the whole community and make it fun at the same time.
