I started smoking at a really early age. By the time I was 15 I had already picked up a full time smoking habit. I am now in my early 20 ' s and it is really starting to catch up to me. Growing up I was always amongst the top runners in gym class wether it was long distance or short distance now I can't play any sport for more than 5 - 10 minutes because I completely lose my breath. Even walking short distances I feel the impact smoking has had on me over the years, and I know it's only going to get worse. I have tried quitting countless amounts of time. The withdrawal from nicotine for me is unbearable. Even with all the health scares I'm still having trouble quitting. Has anybody on sythe first hand experienced this or overcome it. Would love to hear some first hand input.

I suggest cutting back more and more everyday/week.

You can try getting pretzel sticks from the store and just popping one in your lip for the "feeling" that you're missing, drink lots of water and maybe try some nicotine gum. I have personally never had to experience this and i hope you are able to overcome it as you are clearly experiencing signs at a young age of why you shouldn't smoke.
Try and stay on track with your goal, make a chart/calendar for the day you want to quit by, smoking tends to be a social thing. If it means not going out for awhile to break this nasty habit, so be it.

Also, coughing/wheezing/ black mucus, and or gunk from your lungs is perfectly normal as you are "detoxing" your body from the tar and nicotine, after this you will begin to feel MUCH better!

I started smoking in the 5th grade, and quit in october 2015. That is 8 years that I smoked. I smoked a pack a day and I have previously tried quitting, however in october 2015 I thought I had oral cancer due to my symptoms and the doctors couldn't really find what was wrong with me, anyways that spooked me enough to finally give up on cigarettes and ever since then I haven't had a single one I quit from smoking a pack to nothing like that. Other annoying symptoms I had from smoking was a constant dry mouth.

These days I have no desire for smoking cigarettes, I do smoke weed though but no cigarettes.

I am quite happy that I had that problem with my throat as it motivated me to quit.

I still run out of breath walking up the stairs though and playing hockey as for a hobby it kills me. Good luck on your journey.

Of course it won't be as good as completely stopping, but I'd suggest going to vaping and then maybe switch to the patch when you feel you are ready.

From what i've heard vaping is a lot healthier than smoking... but then again not a lot of research has been done.

My friend switched from smoking to vaping and his cardio got much better.

My experience with breaking a habit is drastic change. In your situation...I'll make some shit up for a example. Put a family member in charge of your money and have them live with you until you beat it and they are the judge of if you beat it. Don't even give yourself the option to relapse.

So glad that smoking has got over its "cool" phase. People realize now the real damage is causes to more than just the smoker.

You have got to quit man, whatever it takes. It will kill you or just mess up your life permanently. Best of luck.

Alot of people are mentioning vaping. Do you still get nicotine from that, or is it a substitute for it?

Yes you still get nicotine, however PG and VG can affect users differently, yes both are found in foods but aren't meant to be "inhaled" as they are oils.

about 2% of vapers have experienced problems with the oils involving lung infections/allergic reactions, i would suggest steering clear from it all and just flat out quitting.

You are very addicted, which means any sudden stops in your addiction will be extremely hard to maintain. I suggest breaking it down, each week reduce the amount of cigarettes you smoke by perhaps 10%-20% each time. The problem is, if you stop it all at once you'll enter withdrawl very hard, breaking it down allows you to adjust and overtime get used to smoking a lower quantity of cigarettes until you can eventually refrain from smoking at all. It IS possible to stop smoking all together, but it's difficult, you have to WANT to do it and have the discipline to continue not to fall back into old habits.

Suggest cutting back? Whats the point you are depriving your addiction. Now, can non smokers who don't know what smoking addiction is stop giving BULLSHIT advice. (A bit harsh but yes, the truth)

I dont in any way mean to come across as if I know more than any one here but now as an ex-smoker, who has been smoking for 12 years can give you one simple advice THAT WILL MAKE YOU STOP SMOKING IF YOU WANT TO.

I've had many attempts prior to my last successful attempt which was almost 2 years ago now! I was only successful because of this book 'Easy way to stop smoking' - by Allen Carr

You can read this book online. Here is the link http://vk.com/doc-55395457_226957034

Before most of you jump on this post saying this is bullshit, please let me stress that this guy has a 95% success rate. He was a smoker for 30 years and has helped millions across the world to quit this life ruining habit.

I am ever in his debt, and the only way I can re pay this debt is by helping others quit smoking too. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read this book. It will change your life. If in doubt google him. Google reviews on his book.

Hope this advice helps you change your life!

i started smoking when i was 18 and stopped at 23. switched over to vaping.
I used to smoke 30-40 cigarettes per day. My friends parents suggested me vaping so i bought myself a cheap one for 20 euros and some tabacco liquids ( 18mg/nikotin). my last cigarette is 6 months ago and i have completely switched to vaping. Bought myself an istick vaporizer. I spend around 25 € for liquids per month.

you should try it out it only has advantages besides buying a starter kit. You can buy a cheap one at first and test it out. move to something better once you get used to it.

Vaping is a good idea if you still want to be addicted to nicotine! Only way to not be addicted to nicotine is to give up completely.

To become a smoker, you must force yourself in many ways. Smoking a cigarette does not taste nice, hence users are under the impression they won't get addicted. So they carry on smoking. Before you know it you have a nicotine addiction! If you manage to stop smoking for 21 days then the urge to get nicotine inside you will stop.

It is not hard to stop for 21 days, just need to force yourself to hate cigarettes!

List of benefits of smoking:

Lol.

You can go from 20 cigarettes to 0 in a day no need to cut down, if you really want to quit you can do it. I am just speaking from personal experience, smoked for 10 years nearly a pack in an average day.

Just quit cold turkey, none of this "easing your way into it".

Have someone IRL (Family member, gf, bf, friend) to track your progress and make yourself rely on them... This will be much easier then trying to quit on your own.

I tried everyway but couldnt quit it , but i know i can quit it.

I don't have a personal experience with doing this, but a person in my family managed to quit.
They slowly reduced the numbers every few weeks by only having a cigarette when they were having a coffee. Obviously they struggled at first because that just meant they would have more coffee then they usually would haha.
But after a few months it genuinely did help them quit.

if it's that hard for you go to a sauna few days in a row to sweat the nicotine out, after 2-3 days you should no longer feel the need.

Was regular smoker for 4-5 years myself but i didn't have any problems quitting instantly.
