Range Tank Play

I'm thinking of starting a range tank for both pvp and pvm aspects of the game, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the pvp side of things i.e. what combat level range tanks max out at or any other specific build recommendations, how they fare in bh/pvp worlds, etc. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

 

If you're wondering what combat level they max out at I would use a combat calculator which you can search on google for one, as far as builds I would recommend low attack/str, 70 def, 94 magic and 99 range. Make sure you get lunars and barrow gloves, good luck with the account if you start one.

Typical ranged tank keeps both strength and attack level at 149 or below, any further and they will be permanently melee based. A truly maxed 52 prayer ranged tank will be at 104 combat, and you'll be around level 94-95 if you want 70-75 defence instead (with 99 ranged). Ranged tanks can be quite an asset for PvM, and they are very strong in PvP too. The only problem with PvP is that it can be difficult to find a fight, high defence and damage output make you a less desirable target to fight. Hope this helps.

 

Pre eoc the maxed combat was 109 I think, I've always wanted to make a range tank and max it out but after EOC came out I just gave up. Got to 99 range 99 mage 95 hp and 90 defense and then they fucked pking. They were sick af back then but I'm not sure about them now gl though

 

I find mine fun to pk with as far as hybrid goes. If you have a team to play with they can be even greater fun. Stay around 75 defence if you want to bully pures and zerkers.

 

Get 99 ranged and then decided what defence you want based on what combat level you want to pk at. Different combat levels will have you fighting different builds.

 

Thanks for the responses guys. Probably going to aim for 70-75 defence at first and see how it's like, then move from there. Will probably make a progress thread in the next few days too
