Okay, I bought gold from a RuneScape site and told me to meet to a certain spot.
While I was waiting, a random person logged in and told me to add him so he can PM me. He PMs me and asked for my number to confirm, just a few mins later I realized that the site where I bought it from told me to not PM anyone my number. I was stupid enough to PM this guy my number and called to confirm how much I ordered.
Now I'm curious what do these people do with with the numbers. Hopefully it isn't a Jagex Employee undercover. My account would get rekt. Let's see if it survives tomorrow..

Jagex was able to link up major sythe sellers/traders/users based on public information that was available to them.. this was in 2009 or so

 

Did you receive your gold afterwards? All I can think of accompanying this action is the dude got your order number and used it to claim the gold lol.

 

this could just have been a potential stalker/scammer trying to get free gold from sites by taking your order # and trying to have the goldseller trade someone else with the info.

 

Undercover Jagex employee? Least of your worries if you gave him your number lol..

 

The problem is most likely that the person who got that ID from you now can go to their livechat and say that he ordered that GP himself..

 

Seen it multiple times before, a guy standing near the person that actually has the gold. Adding anyone that gets close to them to try and scam the gold, get your information, and/or pretend to be them and get the order changed to come to them.

It might even be the company, claiming that that's what happens but they just try to scare you and get their money back if you get scammed. All gp sellers I know don't talk in game. They try to be nonsuspicions, but they use the same worlds and places so anyone that has bought from them before knows where to wait.

To answer your replies, I did receive my gold
Here's what happened, I always use their online chat on their site because it's a faster way to receive my gold. After chatting with one of their support they told me to go to the world blah blah and do not send anyone your number or trade with anyone. I obviously wont trade my gold back once I receive it lol. So while I go on that world I wait on the spot where they usually log in. So, a few minutes later this guy named Briskys logs in front of my face and I'm like oh just a regular guy. He then says "hey, (my name) add me" so I added him and he goes "Send me your phone number so I can confirm the transaction". I sent him my phone number and he calls my phone, so I answered and asked me if I was the character in the game and I said yes and asked me how much I ordered to confirm it and I said it. He then says "Wait a few minutes and you'll receive your gold." So, I wait and go back to the site and realized it said not to send your phone number to anyone in game. As I talked to their support, he/she said their getting their account setup and everything. So a few minutes later, they log in and I got my gold.
Only reason why I put this thread is it got me worried bc some random asked me for my phone number. Called me and had a british accent so I was like fuck he could be a Jagex undercover. I tried to trace his phone number but figured out it's a generated skype #

 

It wasn't the Order ID they asked for, it was actually my phone number they wanted to call me.

 

are you sure it was a generated skype #? if you wouldnt mind pming me the p# i can try to get additional details through my verification methods.

 

Trust me, Jagex has a lot more on their mind than to send someone to go undercover and catch you for RWT, for a few mil.
