    Question from a complete noob

Hey all, know there are a lot of great LoL players around Sythe.

I was getting pretty tired of Runescape and looking for a new game. I'm also always looking to be more active around Sythe and picking up on League would help me do that.

So I had a question or two for you guys - is there anyone that just always plays unranked matches? Is it possible to get enjoyment out of just doing this? I'm usually a pretty competitive person, but I don't know if I want to get in on Ranked games. I think I'm past my days as a gamer able to tolerate being yelled at by some random person on the internet for messing up our teams chances of winning. :embar: I've also heard the community around League can get quite toxic - are these claims true or unsubstantiated?

I know a lot of you guys are hardcore players + boosters and probably scoff at the idea of people only playing unranked - but I was wondering if this was a good way to enjoy the game without having the added stress of it being a ranked game and people depending on you heavily etc. etc.

Either way I'm looking to get into the game. Any general tips you can give me would be immensely appreciated. The community for the game is huge and I want to see what I'm missing.

Been meaning to add you forever lmao. Think I first added an impostor or something. That or my internet crapped out and it didn't send it properly.

    Thanks man :).

Anyone else wishing to add me to discuss the game are more than welcome to. I finally built a new rig so worrying about specs is a thing of the past.

Yes of course you can get enjoyment off LoL without doing ranked. In fact, normals and ranked don't "really" differ too much. Normals, your matched will people around your skill level. Ranked, your matched with people around your rank or skill level. Basically rank is for getting the rewards and looking good. That's all. Just like normals or ranked, you can try out all the champs etc. just like you would anywhere else.

    Question from a complete noob

Loads of people play normals for fun. In-fact, I played around 300 normals season 1 prior to playing ranked. Playing normals is part of the learning experience, and in all honesty, is when you will have some of the most fun as everything is a new experience. Even after becoming seasoned with the game, playing normals to blow off steam, troll around with friends and what not is still fun. However, once you do start become more well versed with the game, you will want to start playing ranked, which, on its own, is probably the main reason why I still play LoL.

I added you to the Sythe LoL Chat.

Fantastic! I was hoping this would be the case. I know my brother did a ton of unranked over the summer and he seemed to enjoy it.

Really wanted to get a consensus opinion on it. Seems pretty obvious I can do the Unranked games then.

If anyone else wants to add me to give me tips or such, you can pm me your Skypes.

    Question from a complete noob

I've played somewhere in the realm of 5000 games in the past four years, 15-20% of which being ranked. It's definitely possible to have fun playing normals. You'll usually get matched with people around your skill level (key word being usually.)

As far as the community being toxic, you'll run into assholes here and there just like any internet community in existence. It's a lot worse as you're leveling to 30 but it fizzles out once you begin playing with more experienced players. People intentionally going afk/feeding extremely rare in my experience but it does happen, and that's just a fact of life.

Hit me up on Skype and I can answer any questions!

Yoo, I started off like that. Only unranked, I was such a noob but honestly, those were the best days of LoL for me.

Now ALL I play is ranked.

I suggest you just keep the game for enjoyment, for now.
But once you get good, trust me there will be nothing left to hold you back from playing ranked.

Oh and yes, very toxic community indeed, well at least on EUW.

    Question from a complete noob

Welcome to League for a start. I know a LOT of my irl friends who just spam normal/ARAM games, they don't play the game to win/become the best, they play for fun, so yes, it is possible.

But really, if you cant handle being raged at by somebody over the internet, for 30mins, who you're never going to meet again, you shouldn't be playing league tbh. Yes it is as toxic as you've heard. Unfortunate to say I'm one of those players.

My general tip for you would be to stick at the game. Honestly it really does suck in the beginning. The first time I played a game of league I ended up not wanting to play the game, then I decided to actually try a few more games and what do you know, over 2,500 league hours under my belt :p

Sorry for the paragraphs. Hope this cleared a couple things up for you.

You can actually get a lot of enjoyment out of Normals. I know my friend doesn't play ranked, rather he plays a lot of Team Builder and so his MMR in Team Builder is like Platinum-Diamond, when his solo Q rank is Gold 5.

I'm honestly not sure if I can handle being raged at haha. I have pretty thick skin but I could see myself getting annoyed easily at it. Back, say, 5 years ago, I'd totally eat that up lmao. I'd be the one egging people on and such. As I become an old man (;) ) I get less tolerable in that regard.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Pretty pumped to start a new game, especially one so popular. I just hope I like it. :noworry:

    Question from a complete noob

From my opinion, I think the enjoyment you get from normals kind of dies down. In my experience, normals is like 100x easier than ranks.

At a certain point in time, you can probably pull anything off and still win, which is really fun at first but then gets really boring because there's no longer much of a challenge and you run out of weird things to play.

If you can get 4 friends to play with you or just make new friends, normals will be a blast as well. You can have so much fun playing with friends especially if you voice chat.

Watch some streams or videos to get a feel for it. It's best to just play while watching some videos during queue. Maximum learning. That's what I've been doing and have seen my game go up. I'm still not too good but I'm getting there.

In the LoL chat you'll learn a lot as well.

I don't recommend watching streams as a beginner. You head over to a stream about a game you've never played, tell me how much you pick up, it will be close to 0.

Play a few games yourself first, get a feel for the game. The more you play yourself the better you'll become.

League does take a LOT of hours to become good.

    Question from a complete noob

Yes there are heaps of non-ranked users who get lots of enjoyment out of the game by just chilling and having fun, i myself however, do get a far superior satisfaction by playing ranked, due to the fact that u feel like you accomplished something/gained something.

If you want to stay casual you can surely play normals, meet other people, and queue together with them and have fun with the aspect of playing with friends.
But if you indeed want to strive towards your inner competitiveness that you say is a part of you, you can definitely play rankeds, and take a break every so often to chill and relax in normal games.
Some people start their day out with a normal game, and proceed to then rank up, to end their day off on a good note by playing a normal game again.
in my opinion that is a great way of doing it, as you enter a state of having fun from the first game, "warm up", and will most likely turn you less toxic (if you are at all) than what you would of if you jumped straight ahead.

Secondly, yes the game is very much toxic, but it also highly depends on how you go about it yourself. If you play teambuilder, you will rarely see any ragers, in normals (unranked) games there will be occasional dumbasses. The one place people are the most toxic is ranked games, and that is selfexplanatory. if you play bad, the players want to vent off their stress, direct it towards someone, and more so "blame" an individual for the loss, than taking any blame themself. But these toxic behaviours really comes from talking back to them, or pointing out their mistakes as well. So rule number one, never get into an argument with a league player, you will never be right. People are so set on their own mind, that u can never get them to see what you see, so attempting to do so is a waste of effort, and will increase stress level. Let ragers be, let them rage and pay them no mind.

As to playing the game, i can definitely help you out as i have helped many others in this section with their gameplay/builds/champion specific strats/or strategies in general, just hit us up in the skype LoL chat, or me privately.

I really do hope you will enjoy your experience with playing League.
