Put auto bumper thread in its own section and (maybe) category

This thread: https://www.sythe.org/threads/official-auto-bump-test-thread would be way more effective if it were in its own section and category. A test thread like this has no business being mingled in with content, whether that content is shitposting or not. It also discourages exploration of the spam forum because this is what you see, regardless of time of day, on the home page:

I'm proposing a new category too because it doesn't really fit anywhere else, but this is less necessary. Its own section is an absolute must though. This would help make it more visible too, instead of just expecting users to know that there's a random thread in the spam forum for their auto bumper testing.

Before anyone argues that a lone thread in its own section cannot be "bumped" (as in - getting it to rise to the top of the thread list), you are correct, but posting by its very nature implies bumping. Users don't need to see their thread move to the top of the list at the expense of the enjoyment of an entire, content-driven section.

Would love to hear an alternative. Like @Juws said none of you guys frequent the spam forum so it doesn't affect you. That thread being constantly bumped legitimately puts a dent in the enjoyment of the section. If you don't want a new section for it then maybe there should be a better system in place for auto bumping.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate that thread, but there are several reasons it needs to move:

1. It takes away from spam forum posts. I won’t see the latest content because people keep bumping the thread. Yes, it’s one thread, but I assume there are no new spam posts because all I see is the auto bump thread.

2. It’s the most active thread on the forums. If anything, the thread deserves a spot more than SytheLib.

3. It’s not that difficult to sticky it or move it away from the spam forum.

I hope people realize that this isn't a troll. We genuinely want something done about the thread.

 

Given auto bumping is now a $300+ donor feature, perhaps it could be moved to the donor lounge. I don't support adding a new section just for this specific thread, but moving I'm not opposed to moving it to a different section.

Another argument could be made that the spam forum currently requires at least 15 post count before a user can post in this section. Some users prefer to create a bumping account instead of using their main Sythe account. By having this thread in the spam forum, these new accounts first need 15 pc before they could post on the autobump thread. Moving it to the donor lounge however just changes the 15pc barrier to a $5 donator barrier.

I 100% agree it should be stickied to the spam forum or in a different section itself.

Sticky-ing the thread won't resolve the issue of the thread being displayed on the front page constantly.


I personally think this thread belongs somewhere in Sand Box. Perhaps a new Sand Box category could be added called 'Test threads' or something like that. The auto bump thread could be moved there, but users could also make threads to test things like GFX.

SF users are unique and deserve their spot, but their favorite section and its content is only 1 click away, so I wouldn't consider the auto bumper thread a problem and I can tell you that staff in general don't care about SF, or its users at all, in fact staff is scared to even enter SF for obvious reasons. I mean, look at you, even your avatar is disturbing.

HOWEVER, I would like to provide a different, more appealing argument for staff to consider - more prominent place for the auto bumper testing thread means more views and potentially more people aware of this donation perk. It could motivate more people to donate to sythe in order to get their bumper IP whitelisted and buy an auto bumper from one of the devs on sythe.

I have literally only just came back so yeah spam isn't my place, the thread is simply there for testing no need to put it elsewhere

 

I use to report people who left their bumper and some staff, would get the person to stop and some wouldn't so I basically keep reporting on till I got a staff member who would, I stopped recently, I'm not sure where the best place to move it is, but my guess would be software sales since it makes the most sense there.

regardless, if you have an auto bumper, you don't need to use an auto bumper feature to test if it runs in the time, you could easily test your 4-hour thread on cmd or something. if you know bump works, basically I am saying recurring testing is not needed on the thread, it should be a single bump test thread.

 

A few thoughts:

1) Moving the thread could be beneficial, but you have to be cognizant of where it goes. If it's moved into an active sub-section, it's going to create many of the same issues within the respective section that caused you to make this suggestion.
2) We are all aware that SF posts don't increase post count. There are currently no restrictions on how frequently you post in the test thread like there are for buy/sale threads. If it's moved into another section, what's to stop someone from abusing the heck out of the thread for easy post count?
3) Perhaps it could be moved to a dead-content section, like one of the Sythelib subs that hasn't been active in 2+ years?
4) At the very least, I do think sticky'ing it in SF makes sense.

Lol bro it's a donor feature test thread in a section that is meant to be fun. Just make another section, prevent new threads, disable post count, and boom, problem solved.

Perhaps move it to Viral Threads, as that's an inactive section anyways, though one could argue such thread would never be found by newer users.

Another possibility could be to sticky such thread, so it's a bit more seperated from the usual kind of threads.

Regardless like @Pikachu said the thread isn't meant to be used for a longer period of time anyways, God knows why you would want to keep on bumping that thread if your autobumper is properly working. I'd say such testing could also be done in your own personal sale threads, just so long as you follow the section rules.
