Pure=07 and Main=RS3... Thoughts?

So I was approached by an old friend today, thinking about getting
back into Runescape. he hasn't played the game since 2011.

He asked me a question I found hard to answer, so I asked some people
in game who mostly gave me the same response.

"If you want to play a pure to pk, play 07".
Or, "If you want to play a main/kill bosses, play RS3".

I've never been a fan of RS3, so I couldn't confirm, nor deny this.

So, what are your opinions?

 

I agree that the notion holds true in terms of popularity, but you can do both.

For example, if you want to PK on RS3, there's still a pretty good community that PK on Legacy mode. Bossing and PVM is definitely one of the most popular things to do on RS3 though, and a lot of end game content is centered around bossing/pvm.

As far as 07 goes, you can absolutely get the most utility out of a pure on these servers. Pking is more active than it is in RS3. If you want to PK in EoC it probably isn't even possible. I doubt it's that popular.

But OSRS has plenty of bossing / pvm opportunities as well - Zulrah is basically Old School's QBD. Corp is in OSRS. God Wars Dungeon is in OSRS. Abyssal Sire/Cerberus/Krakens are all good bosses with varying mechanics.

So I would tell your friend to play 07 because he will be a lot more comfortable within the confines of that game and the simpler combat system and cleaner interface.

Runescape 3 isn't hard, but being gone for 5 years I think he'd be better off playing Old School.

 

I wouldn't recommend playing RS3 to anyone. In my opinion Old school in better in every aspect.

Another thing, pure pking is pointless in RS3 because the way stats work; you'll get one banged in ahrims and whatnot.

 

Personally I don't agree with him on the main/skilling/pvm on Rs3.

He hasn't played since 2011, he's gonna come back to the game and be so shocked with how different it is. Its hard to say that Rs3 is even Runescape anymore. Introduce him to OSRS, a game that he's already familiar with and the nostalgia + the excitement of new content will draw him back.

 

rs3 has legacy mode, pretty much old runescape.

its not different at all, it just has more content and better graphics than it did before.

 

Legacy mode is VERY different to Pre-Eoc. Damage is based on the tier of your weapon and accuracy is based on your tier of weapon and their tier of armour, so in most PvP scenarios you'll never miss a hit and 60 att builds etc are a thing of the past.

Not to mention that a lvl 90 weapon can hit 900 of your 990 max health in legacy mode.

what? he wants rs3 for pvming, not pking, irrelevant.

also noxious scythe is expensive af, and hes using overloads, clearly a bad example since you're pretty much stating max end game gear weapon

 

Depends on the style of gameplay he likes. I'd say do both? its possible to afk rs3 while paying close attention to 07 or vise versa...

 

Misread then I guess but PvM kinda requires endgame gear and you're heavily disadvantaged if you don't use abilities when you get to the harder bosses like Vorago, Araxxor, Raids etc etc, so it's still not worth using legacy mode if you want to PvM.

If you find Nox expensive you can get the same dps from drygores which are 30m for a set (Around 6m 07 or 2 bonds) so it's not that far out there.
