I support, if it is implementable. I also like your proposed design, very sleek.

Other than that, I do not support this. What can I see here? A simple basic private message system, where it informs you for the last IP address change, and e-mail confirmation? I wouldn't actually touch vBulletin for this, I'd simply do this in PHP, where it sends out an e-mail to both of the traders, confirming whatever, and so on.

I think it's an absolutely stupid idea.

So if I have a dynamic ip it will say, "Cosrob's last ip changed 1 day ago..." Won't dynamic ips ruin the whole point of showing when the ip changed?

As people mentioned, dynamic ips will screw this whole thing up. Therefore, there will be problems and will not help in preventing scams , etc in any way. Unless there is a solution to the dynamic ip problem, I somewhat support your idea. The general idea is excellent.

Best idea I've read in a while. It sounds like the range of 200 miles or whatever would solve the dynamic ip problem? I don't know much about that though.

I would gladly donate to get someone code it, if Matthew/sythe can't.

Well, with dynamic IP's I do believe that vBulletin keeps a decent log of IP's used by a member (maybe with plugin or native support) and most dynamic IP's will at LEAST have the same first 2 sets of octets They are called "Sticky Dynamic Ip Addresses"

For instance: Person A has a current ip of 120.345.23.1 and reboots router or computer and his DHCP lease renews with (in MOST cases) an Ip of this sort: 120.345.xxx.xxx where xxx is the dynamic range of the IP. As most ISP have a lease on a specific set of IP's it IS possible to at least know that a member of a vBulletin forum has the same ISP.

Now, given that it isn't 100% fool-proof, it could be implemented in the PM by it saying something like "This user has a Dynamic IP address and has been using the same ISP for the past XX days"

Just a theory or a solution to the problem. May post further ideas on the matter.

To the OP, I support this as it simplifies the trading process.

I love the idea, if it could be implemented smoothly. The only thing that really concerns me is the IP situation, but I'm sure it could be worked out someway.

    Hmph. *strokes chin*

This would not be hard to code... I already have a pre-defined set of functions for a variety of things which I use for the donations center, so I could re-purpose the code.

The bigger question is Sythe's opinion because of the potential implications on the site's database and server load.

I'll try and discuss this with him and see if we can figure some sort of system out.

Would be a GREAT idea if that IP part worked.
It would say last ip change 0 days ago, and people would know not to trade.
