Personally, I think they are wrong. This Patriot act states that on the night of an election, if a natoinal crisis occurs, elections will be suspended. So I was thinking, what's stopping the president from hiring contractors, creating a fake/ even real national crisis; therefore Bush would legally be the dictator of the US.

From what I see (I may be wrong) Bush could hire contractors, create a national crisis, and then elections are canceled and he assumes power as dictator.

The elections would take place once the crisis was over, he wouldn't be a "dictator" because he doesn't have absolute power, he'd still have to deal with congress, and I still don't see where the contractors come in.

It's a crisis BEFORE the elections.

And clashfan, in no way does it say in the Patriot Act when the elections continue, they would be continued when deemed safe, which could be 10+ years. And Private Contractors come in when I said what's stopping him from hiring them (private contractors) to just make a crisis.

Okay, okay. I'm having a little difficulty understanding what your point is OP. I'm going to assume it's about whether or not we should be able to hire contrators to send people to areas we need it.

In my opinion, contractor is just another way of saying mercenary. Now I tend to think that if you need to hire these types of people, it's because there is a shortage of people willing to do the job within your own borders. If they were hiring people from other countries, that would be one thing, but hiring people within our own country? Either join the military or find another job.

Well. the problem is, the contrators are not bound by any laws..They can (and have) drive on a highway (at any speed) and literally shoot out your radiator if they think you are going a little too close to them or their speed.. They can legally do it in the US.. And NO it is not illegal for a government to hire mercenaries to fight it's own people. They just can't use government soldiers.
Each state has also lost the right to have its own militia..

Firstly you should be carefull for who it is that you call a terrorist, insurgents are not terrorists, and before claiming that Al-Qaida are terrorists you should learn their ideology and find out why it is that they actully did what they did.
For my own reasons, I myself though do not suport Al-Qaida in what they have and are doing. Though I respect Bin Laden for having chosen the hard life instead of his billions.

The "terrorists" have nothing against womans, especially not the insurgents.
While the al-Qaida/taliban might need to change their view on womans a bit, they too would never ever care for wether a country is ruled by a woman or man (as long as it is not their own).

Woman had FULL rights in Iraq under the Saddam regime, and could do no less than what men could do. It was only after you brought the caos to the Iraqis that some iraqi morons started digging up their old and stupid view on woman. Yet even today, womans in Iraq have the exact same rights as men, the only problem is that some morons chose to send the families warning letters forbidding their girls from playing soccer or so. Iraqi insurgents would not do so, and neither would al-Qaida. I personally believe that small taliban insurgents are behind these warnings.

Thereby your attempt to proof new crises to be on their way failed!

If america trully wants peace and no enemies, they should cut of all aids to Israel...

I never said it wasn't legal, I said it wasn't practical or logical. Before you argue a topic, watch the news for 5 minutes and use a bit of common sense. Contractors have been tried in US courts dozens of times for things they did overseas. Whether or not they should be tried by military tribunals is being debated. And what part of your ass did you pull the statement "They can legally do it in the US.." from? They aren't exceptions to the laws outside the border, let alone within. Why in the world would the government give them immunity from the laws within our own borders? Use a little bit of common sense.

You forget that often times you're discussing this with people whose views are pulled from American media and their parents incorrect interpretation of that media. Asking people to form their own opinion on something so hyped up is beyond the average person anywhere you look.

Many cultures clearly place women in a "class" (for lack of a better word right now) below that of men. One of these cultures can be found in Iraq. Respect is a combination of the laws equalizing the classes and the individual doing the same thing. Saddam had one half, but not everyone had the latter. Stating that Hillary would get just as much respect as a man would be untruthful.
