Possible PayPal Vishing?

Before you say I spelt it wrong, no vishing is basically phising via the phone.

But back on topic:

While I was away from my phone I got a phone call from (916)-325-1670 regarding a paid research project on behalf of PayPal (he says the company name, but I can't understand it).

But here's what makes me hesitant:

• Why does PayPal call?
  • Why is it a human voice and not a computer?
• Why not e-mail me instead?
• Why would PayPal fund a project for someone else?

The (916) area code is from Sacramento, California, so I'm not sure.

I'm not participating regardless, but I was wondering your thoughts.

 

Did you give out you're phone number to anyone in particular, what exactly does the voice say? What do you say back? All these help.

When I googled the phone number I got the name Elliott Benson Research in basically every search which I found strange, I do not think Paypal would call you from that area too.


EDIT: I google mapped the area, does not look anything like a Paypal office, just a suburban office building, very strange... and did you give paypal you're correct phone number? Or a fake one (recommended).

 

Seems like someone is phishing using a phone.. So I wouldn't trust it, paypal calls only when REALLY needed, as it states HERE.

I never have given my number to anyone, but they have my cell phone number because they called about a dispute on my account that was resolved.

 

That's strange, I think this sounds like they are indeed trying to phish you. becarful
