35 mins ago a plane crashed into the Hudson River.

Just after 3:30 pm Thursday live coverage began of a US Airways plane downed in the Hudson River, with people standing on the wings.

Flight 1549, an A380 took off from Laguardia on it's way to Charlotte at 3:26 pm.

People were seen standing on the wings and getting onto ferries.

Shortly after the crash, the fuselage sunk below the water line after floating.

The plane appeared wholly intact.

The pilot reported a possible bird attack shortly after takeover. 164 passengers and 5 crew members were onboard, MSNBC reports.

There were reports the pilot went into a flock of geese.

The weather is very cold but clear.

A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters.

New York City firefighters, federal transportation officials and an armada of boats were responding to the accident. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.

Government official said 2 engines of plane that went down in Hudson was disabled by bird strike.

"I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water," said witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press.

The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows, and rescue crews had opened the door and were pulling passengers in yellow life vests from the plane. Several boats surrounded the plane, which appeared to be slowly sinking.

"I saw what appeared to be a tail fin of a plane sticking out of the water," said Erica Schietinger, whose office windows at Chelsea Piers look out over the Hudson. "All the boats have sort of circled the area. ... I can't tell what's what at this point."

This is about 15min from me.. It's a huge cultural barrier that seperates NY from Jersey.

He chose to land in the water, he pretty much AIMED for it knowing he would have a softer crash.

 

The plane was wholly intact when it landed on the Hudson River. It was reported that 0 people were killed, with a minimal amount injured. It was sheer miracle that the pilot found a secure landing spot. Overall, with such a successful landing, it's obvious how no one was hurt.

 

Everyone is fine, and it is dealt with already.

Actually, Everyone is. Some where hospitalized, but that's the worst thing that happened.

 

True. At the moment of impact and rescue there were 0 casualties. Also, at the moment there are 0 casualties. Although, you're right, you can't just make the assumption that everyone is fine.

 

Being hospitalized is no walk in the park. You don't walk in there and become instantly "better"

I live in NY, I was there when it happened. Pretty amazing though, if it were me I would have killed everyone on that plane trying to land it.
